PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dan Sergeant (ranked 3976 p4p, 195 weight class) and Pablo Jr Silva (ranked 4922 p4p, 226 weight class). Pablo Jr Silva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Sergeant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Jr Silva!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sergeant shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Silva has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Silva lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sergeant avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Sergeant kicks Silva off and gets to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sergeant is defending against the submission attempts here by Silva.
Silva is just content to waste time from the top position. Sergeant takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Silva engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Sergeant has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Silva is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Sergeant has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Silva regains guard immediately.

Sergeant has gone for a leg lock! Silva slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sergeant's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Silva wants to control from the top but Sergeant keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
An inside leg kick lands from Silva.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sergeant avoids it really well and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sergeant defends it nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Sergeant jumps into side control!
Sergeant is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Silva will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Sergeant seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Sergeant wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sergeant knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sergeant clobbers Silva with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Sergeant shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Sergeant's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sergeant works the jab nicely.
Silva displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sergeant.

Silva is rocked!
Silva switches off momentarily and Sergeant cracks him with a monster right hand! Silva topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Sergeant dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Sergeant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dan Sergeant!
