PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kazuo Hata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Johnz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hata comes to the ring accompanied by DJ Shadow - Stem. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuo Hata!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Johnz!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnz is looking to clinch but Hata is avoiding it.

Johnz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hata swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Peter Johnz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnz tests Hata's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Johnz throws a looping overhand right but Hata ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fight stays on the outside here - Johnz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hata has hold of one of Johnz's legs. Johnz is fighting the takedown attempt but Hata gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Hata drops back looking for a leg! Johnz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Johnz manages to kick Hata off! Hata jumps back into Johnz's guard.

Hata is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Johnz stops Hata from passing to mount.
Johnz tries to bench press Hata off him but Hata keeps the position.

Hata thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hata tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Hata is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hata wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnz, who protects the arm well.
Johnz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hata's best efforts.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hata is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hata is thwarting Johnz's attempts to control the position.
Hata is looking to advance position but Johnz won't allow it.
Johnz is trying to stand back up but Hata is controlling him
Johnz is looking for a sweep. Hata is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Johnz misses with a looping left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Johnz walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Hata checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Hata rushes Johnz and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Hata is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Johnz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Johnz wants to break free but Hata has control.
Johnz tries to stall but Hata uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Johnz gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hata.

Hata breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnz fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hata.
Johnz loads up on a big right hand but Hata slips the punch.
Johnz tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Hata counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hata wants to pass the guard but Johnz is keeping the position.
Johnz is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hata stands and throws Johnz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hata has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Johnz!

Johnz is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Hata swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Johnz is now in Hata's guard. A big mistake from Hata there, giving up the dominant position!
Hata is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hata working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hata escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hata had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Johnz is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hata Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Johnz's back instead.

Hata working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hata has got his arm under Johnz's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Johnz has spun round into Hata's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Johnz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hata, up you get!

Hata decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hata prevents Johnz from standing back up.
Hata will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazuo Hata dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hata escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnz tries to score with a low kick but Hata moves his leg out of the way.
Johnz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hata scores a takedown into full mount!

Hata is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Johnz is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kazuo Hata!
