PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barry Horowitz (ranked 3944 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lukasz Patryk (ranked 23266 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Horowitz might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Horowitz theme. Lukasz Patryk will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Barry Horowitz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lukasz Patryk!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Bart Greer.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Horowitz dives in and scores a takedown into Patryk's guard.

Horowitz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Horowitz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Patryk wants to stand and escape but Horowitz is having none of it.

Horowitz stands and steps away. Patryk gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Horowitz has a takedown stuffed.
Patryk's coach down at King Of Pain was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Patryk's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Patryk lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Horowitz backs up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horowitz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Patryk defends it nicely.
Patryk throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Horowitz pushes Patryk up against the cage in a clinch.

Patryk successfully pulls guard.

Horowitz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Patryk manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Horowitz has Patryk in his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patryk wants to control from the top but Horowitz keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Horowitz is on top in guard.

Horowitz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Patryk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Horowitz defends it easily.

Patryk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Horowitz tries to free his leg and advance position but Patryk is retaining full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Horowitz's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Horowitz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Horowitz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Patryk, up you get!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Horowitz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Patryk!

Horowitz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Patryk has escaped the position, nice work there.

Horowitz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Patryk is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Horowitz throws an elbow but Patryk slips to the side and avoids it well.

Patryk takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Patryk is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Horowitz has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Horowitz controls the position from side control.
Patryk is looking to reverse the position.

Horowitz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Patryk has escaped the position, nice work there.
Patryk is looking for a sweep.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Horowitz decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Patryk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Horowitz is trying to defend but Patryk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Horowitz makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Horowitz rushes Patryk and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Patryk is trying to pull guard but Horowitz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Patryk has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Horowitz has Patryk pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Horowitz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Patryk tumbling to the mat - Horowitz dives into Patryk's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Patryk is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Horowitz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Patryk is working an open guard so Horowitz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Horowitz swats away the attempt to clinch by Patryk.
Patryk falls off balance throwing a combination

and Horowitz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Patryk wants to control the position but Horowitz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Horowitz winds up and cracks Patryk with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Horowitz is trying for a kimura here. Patryk looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Horowitz wins by kimura!

A determined Barry Horowitz didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
