Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Efren Gray (ranked 24503 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adlan Barayev (ranked 6206 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Efren Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adlan Barayev!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barayev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Barayev trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gray avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gray trying to control the position.
Gray manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Barayev manages to get himself to full guard.

Gray missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Barayev is pulling down on Gray's head. It's preventing any offense from Gray, at least for the moment.
Gray trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barayev has his foot on Gray's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gray works his way back into a safe position though.
Gray throws an elbow that misses. Barayev uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gray's guard. Nice move by Barayev!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barayev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Barayev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gray swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gray enables Barayev to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gray manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gray has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Barayev wants to control from the top but Gray keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gray manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Barayev manages to get himself to full guard.

Barayev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gray gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gray tries a head kick but it misses.

Barayev shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Barayev showed some decent athleticism there.
Gray is holding on to half guard well.
Barayev tries to pass to full mount but Gray defends it.
Barayev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gray keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barayev stalling away here and it's allowed Gray to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Barayev is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Barayev is fighting to break Gray's control of his arms but Gray is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Barayev is looking to work some ground and pound but Gray has wrist control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Barayev trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Gray manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gray stands up and waves to Barayev to follow him.
Adlan Barayev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gray shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Barayev tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Gray manages to move to mount!

Gray prevents Barayev from getting the reversal.

Barayev defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gray.

Barayev is just holding on here. Gray manages to take his back.
Gray lands with a hammerfist to the side of Barayev's head.
I really don't envy Barayev right now.
Barayev looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Gray has his opponent's back but Barayev is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Gray.
Barayev is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gray fails with the takedown

and Barayev holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Barayev blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Efren Gray dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Barayev throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gray.
Barayev swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Gray counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Barayev manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Barayev closes the distance and pushes Gray back into the cage.

Barayev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Gray is looking to score with low kicks.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barayev looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Barayev is trying to control the action in half guard but Gray is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Barayev is looking to stall here but Gray recovers full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gray is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Barayev counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Gray jumps guard and drags Barayev to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Gray tries to keep at a distance but Barayev has taken the fight into the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Barayev scores with a nice short uppercut.


It looks like Efren Gray has been cut.

Gray jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barayev walks away with a smile on his face. Gray gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Efren Gray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nice takedown defense from Barayev. No joy for Gray on that attempt.
Gray tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Despite the aggression on Barayev's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Adlan Barayev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barayev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
