PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Foster (ranked 7284 p4p, 694 weight class) and Jack Wilkinson (ranked 4972 p4p, 571 weight class). Wilkinson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Face The Pain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jack Wilkinson acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Wilkinson!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Foster.
Foster tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wilkinson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wilkinson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Foster looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Wilkinson decides to stand back up. Wilkinson steps back and let's Foster get back to his feet.
Foster tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wilkinson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Foster looks to land a combination but Wilkinson avoids it well.
Wilkinson looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Wilkinson keeps the fight on the outside.
Wilkinson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wilkinson wants it to stay on the feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wilkinson! But no joy.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Wilkinson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Foster really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Wilkinson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Wilkinson wants to stand up but Foster is controlling the position.

Wilkinson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Foster to stand up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Wilkinson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Foster throws a hook but Wilkinson blocks it.

Foster goes for a double leg but Wilkinson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wilkinson continues to drive forward.

Wilkinson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Foster tries to avoid it but Wilkinson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Foster to the ground. Foster escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Foster has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilkinson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Foster shoots in looking for a takedown. Wilkinson tries to sprawl out of it but Foster keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wilkinson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Foster throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wilkinson's waist but Wilkinson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Foster off to one side.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brad Foster will probably get the nod.

Jack Wilkinson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilkinson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
