PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Garland Hogan (ranked 6268 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manolito Bjj (ranked 5385 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Garland Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Manolito Bjj!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hogan stuffs the takedown.
Hogan cracks a nice hook into Bjj's ribs.
Hogan really is a fat lump.

Hogan gets a double leg takedown into Bjj's guard.
Hogan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bjj's head.
Bjj has a closed guard, preventing Hogan from standing up.
Hogan stops Bjj from standing up.
Bjj is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hogan wants to stand but Bjj is controlling his posture from full guard.

Bjj looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Hogan tries to stand but Bjj is controlling from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bjj is looking to clinch.
Manolito Bjj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hogan rushes Bjj and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Bjj manages to break the clinch.
Hogan misses with a wild combination.

Bjj is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bjj fails with a takedown attempt.
Bjj throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hogan appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Bjj shoots in looking for a takedown but Hogan manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bjj's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Garland Hogan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manolito Bjj.

Bjj is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hogan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hogan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A lull in the action here as Hogan stalls from top position.

Hogan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bjj is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hogan trying to control the action but Bjj is working from the bottom.

Hogan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hogan slows the pace down.
You can see the frustration on Bjj's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bjj tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hogan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garland Hogan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hogan moves into the clinch.
Bjj is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hogan is defending well.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hogan takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Bjj is trying to pull guard but Hogan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Hogan breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hogan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bjj is trying to defend but Hogan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Hogan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bjj utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hogan stands up and waves to Bjj to follow him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bjj closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hogan's guard.
Hogan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bjj can do to turn this around?

Hogan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bjj defends well.
Hogan keeping moving, preventing Bjj from controlling successfully.
Garland Hogan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bjj wants to pass the guard but Hogan is keeping the position.

Bjj seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hogan is striking off his back. Bjj thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Hogan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hogan wants to get back to full guard.
Bjj is keen to just control but Hogan is a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hogan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bjj.

Bjj is breathing heavily.
Bjj shoots in for a double leg but Hogan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hogan appears to be looking for a big counter.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bjj has had enough of the clinch but Hogan keeps him there for the moment.

That was a close second round but I would say that Garland Hogan will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Hogan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hogan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bjj sprawls well initially but Hogan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hogan stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Hogan has managed to clinch.
Hogan stalls.
Hogan stops a takedown attempt from Bjj.
Bjj tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hogan just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hogan content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Bjj keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hogan's efforts to push away.

Hogan breaks from the clinch.
Garland Hogan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bjj tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hogan paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Hogan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bjj.
Hogan stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Bjj is looking for a takedown.

Bjj tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hogan just stands there and leans against the cage.

Hogan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hogan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hogan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bjj quickly recovers to half guard.
Manolito Bjj has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Garland Hogan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Hogan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Bjj has managed to free his arm - good work.

Well Hogan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
