PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luis Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zhang Zu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is National Anthem. Zhang Zu will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Zhang Zu!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zu throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Luis Diaz has been cut.
Zu fails to land with a series of punches.

Diaz steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Zu. That one must have hurt.
Diaz avoids the head kick by Zu.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zu but Zu pushes him off and we're back to square one.

An inside leg kick lands from Zu.
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Zu sprawls well.
Zu thumps Diaz with a low kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Zu, right into the meat.
Diaz doesn't manage to clinch there - Zu circles away.
Zu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Zu scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Diaz manages to mount him!

That's time! Diaz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Diaz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Diaz lands in his opponent's guard.
Diaz is pushing down on Zu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Zu is fighting to maintain full guard but Diaz has managed to sneak the leg through.

Zu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Diaz wants to finish this one by submission but Zu is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Diaz.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz takes Zu's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Zu is in trouble.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Diaz is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Zu knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Zu for a finish.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Diaz looking to break Zu's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Zu remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Diaz will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Zu has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Diaz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Zu wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Diaz slows the pace down.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Diaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Zu, who protects the arm well.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Zu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zu wants to get back to his feet but Diaz drags him back down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zhang Zu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Zu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
