The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hespoon shoots for a double leg takedown but de ridder sprawls well. He's pushed Hespoon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Kevin de ridder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hespoon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because de ridder is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

de ridder is trying to trip Hespoon. He has hold of a leg but Hespoon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. de ridder persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
de ridder really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hespoon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hespoon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but de ridder can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jared Hespoon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kevin de ridder is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
