PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Bastardo (ranked 4860 p4p, 525 weight class) and Jon Callahan (ranked 7312 p4p, 0 weight class). Callahan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tsar Bomba. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Bastardo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Callahan!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callahan fails to land the takedown.
Bastardo looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Bastardo is looking to clinch but Callahan is avoiding it.
Nice takedown defense from Bastardo. No joy for Callahan on that attempt.

Callahan has closed the distance and engaged Bastardo in a clinch.
Bastardo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Callahan is trying to pull guard but Bastardo turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Jose Bastardo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Callahan.
Bastardo throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Callahan is working for takedown but Bastardo is calmly controlling the position for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bastardo lands an elbow inside.


It looks like Jon Callahan has been cut.
Bastardo pushes off an throws an elbow but Callahan leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Bastardo throws an elbow that misses.

Callahan has picked Bastardo up - he's going for a ride! Callahan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Callahan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Callahan decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Callahan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bastardo, pushing him back against the cage.
Callahan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Callahan tries for a takedown but Bastardo manages to get underhooks.
Bastardo avoiding damage as Callahan throws knees to the body.
Callahan goes for a takedown in the clinch but Bastardo prevents it.
Bastardo throws an elbow but it's blocked.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Callahan avoids the elbow strike from Bastardo, against the cage.
Bastardo tries a body shot but Callahan blocks it.
With the fighters up against the cage, Bastardo throws an elbow but misses.
Bastardo comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Callahan's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Bastardo is trying to push Callahan away but Callahan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Callahan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Bastardo has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bastardo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Callahan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bastardo's half guard.
Bastardo is trying to escape back to his feet but Callahan uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Callahan has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bastardo!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Callahan cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Callahan has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bastardo's face.

Callahan with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Callahan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Callahan is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Bastardo can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Bastardo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Callahan on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Callahan scoring with strikes but Bastardo is staying in there.
Callahan controlling from the full mount.
Callahan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Callahan dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jon Callahan's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Callahan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Callahan content to control rather than advance.
Callahan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


Bastardo is rocked!

Callahan gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Oh Bastardo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Callahan moves into the clinch.

Callahan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Callahan shoots in for a takedown. SLAM! Brutal! Bastardo is out cold and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Jon Callahan!
Jon Callahan decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
In defeat, Jose Bastardo stepped up to the mic, saying 'fuck off'.
