PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kris Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troy Morningstar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, assuck- salt mine. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kris Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Troy Morningstar!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cross has Morningstar up against the cage in a clinch.
Morningstar using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cross has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Morningstar.
Cross just leaning against Morningstar, taking a breather.

Morningstar successfully pulls guard.
Cross sitting in guard here, content to control.
Cross wants to pass the guard but Morningstar is keeping the position.
Morningstar controls Cross momentarily but Cross frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cross controlling from the top position.
Morningstar pulls Cross in close to prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross is stalling in the full guard.
Cross postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cross showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Cross has gone for a leg lock! Morningstar slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cross's guard.

Cross escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Morningstar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cross will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cross is looking for a triangle but Morningstar pushes his legs off easily.
Morningstar stays in close to Cross's body and controls the position.
Cross controlling Morningstar's posture.
Cross wants to control the position but Morningstar says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Morningstar wants to get back to his feet.
Cross wants to improve his position but Morningstar is controlling well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kris Cross will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Morningstar tries to bum rush Cross with a series of wild strikes but Cross uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cross swings for the body but Morningstar moves out of range.
Morningstar should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Morningstar tries to clinch up

and Cross holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cross wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Morningstar works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross prevents Morningstar from breaking the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Morningstar lands a hook to the side of the head.
Morningstar wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cross has him pressed against the cage.
Cross stalling in the clinch.

Morningstar decides to pull guard.
Cross wants to stand but Morningstar is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cross content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Morningstar keeping moving, preventing Cross from controlling successfully.
Cross controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Morningstar wants to stand and escape but Cross is having none of it.
Cross content to stall in guard here.
Cross tries to free his leg and advance position but Morningstar is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cross tries to stand but Morningstar is controlling from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cross postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Morningstar tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Cross counters with a nice double leg into side control. Morningstar won't be happy with that.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cross is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Morningstar looks calm but he's in trouble here. Cross gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Morningstar is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Cross lets go of the hold and Morningstar can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kris Cross!
