PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jiu Jitsu (ranked 737 p4p, 106 weight class) and Lapu Lapu (ranked 830 p4p, 122 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 19 - 1, fighting out of London, Jiu Jitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lapu Lapu!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jitsu slips under a jab from Lapu.
Lapu lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Jitsu scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jitsu tries to pass the half guard into mount. Lapu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jitsu seems to be looking for submissions.

Jitsu is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lapu sees it coming and defends easily.
Lapu avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jitsu looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jitsu throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Lapu to regain full guard.

Jitsu wants to pass the guard but Lapu is keeping the position.

Jitsu thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jitsu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jitsu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lapu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jitsu postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Jitsu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jitsu tries to free his leg and advance position but Lapu is retaining full guard.

Jitsu is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Lapu pushes Jitsu off and gets back to his feet.
Lapu throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jitsu sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Jitsu takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Jitsu fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Lapu does it's job there.
Jitsu takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A big left from Lapu misses.
Nice takedown defense from Lapu. No joy for Jitsu on that attempt.
Jitsu moves out of range of the strikes.
Jitsu attempts a counter takedown but Lapu avoids it well and moves away.

Jitsu tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lapu swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jiu Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jitsu takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jitsu drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Lapu Lapu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lapu cracks the inside of Jitsu's front leg.
Lapu looks for the body kick but Jitsu saw that one coming.

Lapu misses with a hook.
Jitsu looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Jitsu defending well as Lapu loads up on a big left hand.
Jitsu half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Jitsu counters with a takedown into side control.

Jitsu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jitsu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jitsu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lapu rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jitsu's guard! Nice work there by Lapu!

Jitsu throws his legs up looking for a submission but Lapu uses it to pass to side control.
Jitsu is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lapu Lapu dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lapu throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Jitsu counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Lapu is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Lapu breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jitsu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lapu.
Jitsu on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Lapu scores with a jab to the head.
Jitsu ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jitsu misses with a takedown attempt
enabling Lapu to counter with a crisp jab.

Jitsu shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lapu napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Lapu is trying to buck Jitsu off.
Jitsu throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Jitsu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lapu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jitsu tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Jitsu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lapu has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jitsu but great work by Lapu.

Lapu tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Jitsu is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Jitsu slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Lapu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jitsu keeps working.

Jitsu is looking to improve his position.

Lapu stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lapu jabs at Jitsu's body.
Jitsu takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Lapu misses with a left hand

and Jitsu counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jitsu throws a big elbow that misses.
Jitsu trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jitsu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Jitsu drops back looking for a leg! Lapu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lapu manages to kick Jitsu off! Jitsu jumps back into Lapu's guard.
Lapu wants to stand and escape but Jitsu is having none of it.

Lapu kicks Jitsu off and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lapu Lapu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jitsu slips a straight right by Lapu.
Jitsu takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Jitsu gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lapu.
Lapu misses with a low kick.
Jitsu fails with a takedown attempt.

Lapu regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Jitsu.

Jitsu fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lapu to the ground. Jitsu is now in Lapu's guard.

Lapu Lapu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lapu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jitsu drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Jitsu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lapu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jitsu goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lapu rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jitsu's guard! Nice work there by Lapu!
Lapu Lapu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lapu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Jitsu throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lapu escapes and throws Jitsu's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Lapu tries to move to mount but Jitsu blocks the move with his legs.

Jitsu is looking to regain half guard here but Lapu keeps moving and retains side control.
Lapu content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Jitsu looking for a sweep but Lapu has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Jitsu is working to get back to half guard.
Jiu Jitsu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Lapu Lapu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lapu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
