Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Richie drives through and clinches with Patterson against the cage.
Patterson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Richie is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Richie lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

It looks like Harlan Patterson has been cut.
Patterson is working for takedown but Richie is calmly controlling the position for now.

Richie drives through and clinches with Patterson against the cage.
Patterson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Richie to keep the fight standing.
Patterson is working for takedown but Richie is calmly controlling the position for now.
The referee is keeping an eye on Richie - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Richie pushes Patterson back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Patterson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Richie.
Richie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Raul Richie seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Richie moves into range and clinches up with Patterson.

Patterson jumps guard and drags Richie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Patterson has a closed guard, preventing Richie from standing up.
Richie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Harlan Patterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Raul Richie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Richie fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Patterson, pushing him back against the cage.
Patterson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harlan Patterson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Richie is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Patterson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee is keeping an eye on Richie - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Patterson has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Richie creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Patterson's defenses.
Patterson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Patterson wants the takedown. Richie is fighting it off but Patterson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Richie's guard against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Richie has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Patterson is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Richie keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Patterson's efforts to push away.

Richie manages to break the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Richie. Those never looked like landing.
Patterson is looking to counter the offense by Richie and move into the clinch.
Richie throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Patterson's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Richie dives in looking to finish as Patterson flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Richie's strikes! Richie is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Patterson's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Patterson was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
