Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paea Talanoa (ranked 9295 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 3729 p4p, 0 weight class). Talanoa comes to the cage accompanied by Tonga. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Talanoa defends it nicely.
Smith looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
The fight stays on the outside here - Talanoa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Talanoa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Talanoa remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've been hearing good reports from Talanoa's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Talanoa tries for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Talanoa moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Talanoa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Talanoa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
Talanoa landing a few strikes.
Talanoa has hold of Smith's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Smith seems comfortable defending it but Talanoa has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Smith is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Smith is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Talanoa couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Paea Talanoa!
