Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Russell Northrop (ranked 370 p4p, 60 weight class) and Mike McGuire (ranked 182 p4p, 25 weight class). Northrop's entrance music is Alive And Kicking. A fine choice. McGuire has chosen Five Finger Death Punch - Jekyll And Hyde as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Russell Northrop could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mike McGuire's chin.

The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Northrop shoots in for a takedown but McGuire shows good takedown defense.
McGuire changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Northrop catches McGuire with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
McGuire wants to land a leg kick but Northrop is out of range.
McGuire throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
McGuire slips a jab and a cross from Northrop.
A nice side step and McGuire releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Northrop definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

McGuire does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Northrop doesn't succeed with the takedown
and McGuire connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McGuire tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Northrop was well out of range. Poor timing from McGuire.
McGuire lands with a cross.
Northrop throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McGuire.
McGuire wants to clinch up but Northrop keeps it at a distance.

Northrop rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McGuire moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Northrop throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McGuire stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McGuire tries to keep at a distance but Northrop has taken the fight into the clinch.

McGuire's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

McGuire cracks Northrop with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

It seemed like McGuire was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
McGuire moves away from the strike by Northrop.
McGuire tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

McGuire throws a front kick aimed at Northrop's knee but Northrop avoids it well.

Northrop throws out a loose jab but McGuire uses good head movement to avoid it.
McGuire looks to land a right hand but Northrop moved out of range.
McGuire misses with a few strikes there.

Northrop's hands are dropping dangerously low here and McGuire connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Northrop scrambles back to his feet.
McGuire tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Northrop bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McGuire is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Northrop looking to punish the body of his opponent here but McGuire is avoiding damage well.

Northrop is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McGuire is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McGuire is not content to let Northrop control the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Northrop tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Northrop has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Northrop is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McGuire knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That was a close round but I would say that Russell Northrop will probably get the nod.
