PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Cotto (ranked 148 p4p, 24 weight class) and Jacks Sole (ranked 272 p4p, 42 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jacks Sole was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jacks Sole!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotto tries to score with a low kick but Sole moves his leg out of the way.
Cotto misses with a wild body shot.
Cotto avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Sole swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sole.
A swing and a miss from Cotto.
Sole takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Cotto throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sole on the side of the head.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Jacks Sole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cotto throws a punch but it's blocked by Sole.

Cotto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sole scores with the left hand. Cotto knows he should have avoided that one.
Cotto throws a low kick, looking for Sole's leg but Sole calmly moves out of range.
Cotto throws a shot from downtown. Sole moves away and avoids it.
Cotto connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sole. Sole circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sole lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Sole tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cotto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cotto takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Cotto jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That kick from Sole tenderised Cotto's leg. Cotto is trying to keep his angry face on.

Sole fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cotto.

Sole shoots in for a double leg but Cotto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Cotto uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sole.

Cotto throws a jab when Sole was well out of range.
Cotto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sole is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Sole shoots in and gets a takedown into Cotto's guard.

Cotto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sole slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Miguel Cotto will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Cotto looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Sole has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Good leg kick by Sole there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Cotto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sole had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cotto defends it easily.

Sole is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cotto's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Cotto is thwarting Sole's attempts to control the position.
Sole moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Sole is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sole has his hands on Cotto's head, controlling the position.

Jacks Sole showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sole manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Cotto on his heels. He'll look to pass Cotto's guard now, I'm sure.

I think Sole has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
