Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sams shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sams was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Phillips manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Sams is pressing down on Phillips's thigh, looking to free his foot. Phillips is holding on for now.
Phillips is refusing to be controlled, as Sams sits in half guard.
Phillips moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Sams is looking to work some ground and pound but Phillips has wrist control.

Sams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phillips kicks Sams off and gets to his feet.
Phillips dives in for a single leg takedown but Sams sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Sams shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Phillips is trying to defend but Sams finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Phillips has his hands clasped together around Sams's back. He's all about the action.

Sams postures up in Phillips's guard and throws a big left but Phillips blocks it.
Phillips is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sams is controlling him.
Sams wants to get up but he can't break Phillips's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sams avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Phillips trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sams stops Phillips from standing up.

Phillips is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Phillips manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Sams won't allow Phillips to get back to his feet.

Phillips lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sams looks winded!
Phillips scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Phillips throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Phillips feints and as Sams raises his hands in defense, Phillips changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sams is looking to stand back up but Phillips counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Sams.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sams tries to kick Phillips off in order to stand up. Phillips Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Sams takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Phillips is putting a hurting on Sams here, landing some big shots from side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sams tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Phillips presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Phillips connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Phillips postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sams looks a forlorn figure.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wilbert Phillips dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Phillips looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Sams shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Phillips is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

and Phillips counters with a shoot takedown. Sams fights it but they end up in guard.
Phillips working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sams's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Phillips would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Sams is breathing heavily.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sams can do anything to dispel that myth.
Phillips postures up and lands a big shot to Sams's brow.
Phillips postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Phillips postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.


Sams is rocked!
Phillips stands up over Sams, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sams is still in real trouble! Can Phillips finish him?
Phillips loads up on a big left hand. Sams felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Phillips looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Sams can't hide his disappointment, as Phillips celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Wilbert Phillips!
