PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Doblin (ranked 4203 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry King (ranked 6481 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bob Doblin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Henry King!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a head kick but Doblin moves out of range.
Doblin gets cracked with a nice right hand there by King.
King pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Doblin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Doblin.

King pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Doblin misses with a series of wild punches.

Doblin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

King pushes Doblin off and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

King clinches up against the cage.
Doblin swings wildly with an uppercut but King uses good head movement to avoid it.
Doblin drops down looking for an ankle pick but King pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Doblin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
King is trying to control Doblin's posture but Doblin avoids it.
Doblin controlling from side mount.
King tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Doblin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Doblin decides to stand back up. Doblin steps back and let's King get back to his feet.
King goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King tries to clinch there but Doblin circles away.

King gets tackled into the cage by Doblin. Doblin maintains the clinch.

Doblin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Doblin looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Doblin decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
King is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
King works the jab nicely.

Doblin instigates a clinch.
King has had enough of the clinch but Doblin keeps him there for the moment.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Doblin utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
King fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Doblin tries for a takedown but King manages to get underhooks.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by King!
Doblin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Doblin has closed the distance and engaged King in a clinch.

Doblin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Doblin tries to get out of the position.
King throws a strike but Doblin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've been informed that King has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
King is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doblin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Doblin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Doblin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Doblin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with King, pushing him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Doblin pulls guard effortlessly.
King throwing strikes from guard but Doblin blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bob Doblin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Doblin shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Bob Doblin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Doblin avoids it really well and circles away.

enabling King to counter with a crisp jab.
Doblin is looking to clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Doblin shoots in for a double leg but King sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Bob Doblin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Doblin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

King thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Doblin's head.
Doblin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Doblin is controlling King's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Doblin wants to get back to full guard.

Doblin is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doblin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but King circles away quickly and effectively.
Doblin misses with a leg kick.
King shoots in looking for a takedown but Doblin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing King's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jab, jab by King - just one landing.
King goes for a double leg but Doblin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Doblin continues to drive forward.
Bob Doblin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry King.
King shoots for a takedown but Doblin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Doblin is looking for a counter combo.
King is breathing heavily.

Doblin clinches.

Doblin wants the takedown. King is fighting it off but Doblin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in King's guard against the cage.

Doblin stands and steps away. King gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Doblin has closed the distance and engaged King in a clinch.

Doblin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doblin throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Doblin tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
King is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Doblin with a body shot.

and Doblin moves into the clinch.

Doblin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

King throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Doblin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. King is in Doblin's guard.

King trying to control but Doblin is working from the bottom.
Doblin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Doblin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doblin showed some decent athleticism there.
King has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Doblin is working away from the top position though.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Doblin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Doblin prevents King from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doblin controlling the action here.
King moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Doblin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Doblin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Doblin missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Doblin stands up from King's guard - Doblin perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Doblin's waist but Doblin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing King off to one side.
Doblin dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Doblin's head and hops out.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Doblin tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Doblin to the ground. Doblin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As King looks to move away, Doblin throws a big counter combo but King just gets out of the way.
Bob Doblin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry King.
Doblin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Doblin throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. King tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Doblin is in King's guard.
King can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Doblin controls the pace.
Doblin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Doblin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on King, up you get!
Doblin throws a body shot but no joy.
Henry King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Doblin throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.
King throws a lazy body kick
and Doblin counters with a three punch combo that has King backing up. King nods at Doblin to acknowledge the strikes.
Doblin shoots in and drives through. King sprawls well.
King wants to counter the offense by Doblin and move into the clinch position.

King clinches up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
King stops a takedown attempt from Doblin.

Doblin drags the fight down to the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doblin wants to get back to his feet but King is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Henry King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob Doblin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doblin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
