PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scott Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Sullivin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sullivin has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Richard Sullivin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sullivin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sullivin is looking for a sweep.

Smith stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Smith decides to stand back up.

Smith gets a takedown into half guard.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.

Smith escapes and gets back to his feet.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sullivin's guard.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sullivin lands a head kick. Smith smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Sullivin fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sullivin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Sullivin wants to hit a switch here but Smith passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sullivin there!
Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sullivin sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Smith escapes and gets back to his feet.
Sullivin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

and Smith counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sullivin!

Sullivin tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Sullivin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Scott Smith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sullivin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sullivin wants to sweep but no luck.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sullivin can do to turn this around?

Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

so Smith counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sullivin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sullivin is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Smith dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Sullivin tries to clinch
and Smith counters with a three punch combo that has Sullivin backing up. Sullivin nods at Smith to acknowledge the strikes.

Smith scores with a takedown into Sullivin's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith stands and steps away. Sullivin gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sullivin tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smith has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Smith stands up from mount. Strange move.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Smith wants to stand up but Sullivin has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Smith stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Sullivin has his takedown stuffed

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sullivin looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sullivin wants to get back to full guard but Smith has mounted him!

Sullivin is trying to escape the mount.
Scott Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Richard Sullivin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Smith gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
