Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julia Women (ranked 24245 p4p, 885 weight class) and Janis Lusis (ranked 6119 p4p, 652 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Janis Lusis!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lusis lands a left and a right that send Women crashing to the mat, dazed. Lusis thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Julia Women has been cut.

Women closes the distance and clinches.
Lusis wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lusis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lusis is trying to break the clinch but Women is controlling him.
Women tries for a takedown. No joy.
Women has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Women tries to pull guard but Lusis forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Women is trying to drag Lusis to the mat but Lusis just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julia Women. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Women has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lusis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Lusis tries to break the clinch but Women is controlling the position.
Lusis has had enough of the clinch but Women keeps him there for the moment.
Women fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Women escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lusis jabs Women to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Women is breathing heavily.
Lusis misses with a two punch combination.
Lusis throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lusis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Women counters with a left to the body.

Lusis wants to clinch up but Women keeps it at a distance.
Women takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lusis misses with a few strikes there.
Women shoots for a double leg takedown but Lusis sprawls well. He's pushed Women's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lusis tries to close the distance and clinch but Women swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lusis rushes Women and presses him up against the cage.
Lusis is trying to push Women away but Women has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Lusis tries to break free but Women pushes him back against the cage.

Women's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lusis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Women manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lusis misses with a combination

and Women holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Lusis is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Women stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Lusis tries to circle away but Women has him pinned against the cage.
Women tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lusis smiles and moves away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lusis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Women moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lusis swings away with a body shot that misses
and Women counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lusis misses with a few strikes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Women clinches up against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Women - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Women tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Lusis avoids it.

Women escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lusis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Women was well out of range. Poor timing from Lusis.
Lusis jabbing away but nothing is landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lusis tries to keep at a distance but Women has taken the fight into the clinch.
Women tries to pull guard but Lusis won't allow it.

Nice body punch from Women - that landed with a thud.

Women pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lusis throws a right hand that Women ducks under and follows up with a left that Women also avoids with ease.

Women decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Lusis makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Lusis is breathing heavily.

Women looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Women is looking to stall here but Lusis recovers full guard.
Women landing with the ground and pound.

Women passes into half guard.
Lusis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Women is keen to just control but Lusis is a slippery customer.
Women performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Women is looking for a kimura but Lusis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Women to get the leverage.
Women content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Women is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lusis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Women.
Women content to control rather than advance.
Women wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lusis keeps working.
Women moves nicely into side control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Women landing a few strikes.
Women remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Women looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Women is working to tighten his grip on Lusis's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Lusis has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Women is really squeezing tight and eventually Lusis passes out! Women breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
