Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dana Purple (ranked 6865 p4p, 533 weight class) and Shamil Gasanov (ranked 25570 p4p, 701 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dana Purple!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shamil Gasanov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Paulsen Ambrosius and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Purple fails to land the takedown.
Gasanov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gasanov wants it to stay on the feet.

Purple shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Purple showed some decent athleticism there.
Purple wants to pass the guard but Gasanov is defending well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gasanov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Purple is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gasanov tries to clinch there but Purple circles away.
Purple dives in and grabs Gasanov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gasanov pushes down on Purple's head and hops out.

As Purple backs off Gasanov throws a huge counter combo but Purple manages to avoid it all.
Dana Purple seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As Purple backs off Gasanov throws a huge counter combo but Purple manages to avoid it all.

Purple fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

No luck for Gasanov with that takedown attempt.
Purple really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Purple goes for a double leg but Gasanov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gasanov continues to drive forward.
Purple shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gasanov sprawls well. Gasanov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Purple gets slowly back to his feet.
Purple throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gasanov's waist but Gasanov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Purple off to one side.

Purple avoids a kick to the body.
Purple was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Purple tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gasanov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Purple somewhat.

Gasanov just misses with a punch to the body.
Gasanov stuffs the takedown attempt from Purple. Purple gets slowly back to his feet.

Gasanov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gasanov tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Purple is not content to let Gasanov control the position.
Purple knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gasanov on the ground.
Purple manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Gasanov should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Purple changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gasanov tries to avoid it but Purple manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gasanov to the ground. Gasanov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Purple holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Purple is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Purple has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gasanov controls Purple momentarily but Purple frees himself.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Purple shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gasanov as he jumps to the side.

Shamil Gasanov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Purple throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gasanov's waist but Gasanov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Purple off to one side.
Purple fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gasanov on the side of the head.
Purple dives in for a single leg takedown but Gasanov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
