Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Sampson (ranked 6565 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Halpenny (ranked 4244 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Teddy Sampson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Halpenny!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sampson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Sampson feints and as Halpenny raises his hands in defense, Sampson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Halpenny wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Sampson manages to pass to side control.

Halpenny has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sampson is working away from the top position though.
Halpenny is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sampson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Halpenny is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sampson is nestled in close to Halpenny, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Sampson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Halpenny wants to control the action here but instead Sampson manages to pass to full mount!
Halpenny is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Halpenny is wriggling around trying to escape.

You get the feeling that Halpenny really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Sampson prevents Halpenny from getting the reversal.

Sampson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Halpenny sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Halpenny is looking to control Sampson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Halpenny avoid being mounted?

Sampson wants to work for an arm triangle but Halpenny is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sampson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Halpenny has worked his arm free - good work by Halpenny!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Halpenny clinches up against the cage.

Sampson gets control of Halpenny's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sampson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Sampson has Halpenny pulled in close to control his posture.
Sampson continues to stall.
Halpenny trying to control the position from guard on top but Sampson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sampson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sampson holds on and takes a little breather.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sampson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Halpenny off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Halpenny shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sampson defends it nicely.

Halpenny bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Halpenny just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSampson.
Halpenny will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sampson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

and Sampson counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Teddy Sampson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Halpenny.

Sampson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Halpenny stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Sampson dives in and scores a takedown into Halpenny's guard.
Halpenny is breathing heavily.

Sampson gets to his feet. Halpenny looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Halpenny gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Halpenny is trying to stall.

Sampson tightens his grip and picks Halpenny up, before dumping him to the ground. Halpenny manages to land in guard.
Teddy Sampson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Halpenny looking for subs off his back but Sampson has passed one foot through into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sampson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Sampson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Sampson is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Halpenny still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Halpenny has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Sampson is trying to get back to half guard.

Sampson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Halpenny off and has taken his back!
Halpenny is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Sampson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Halpenny can do to turn this around?
Sampson is landing with strikes. Halpenny can't take much more of this.

Sampson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A solid leg kick lands there for Sampson.
Halpenny shoots in for a takedown but Sampson shows good takedown defense.

Halpenny clinches up with Sampson and pushes him back against the cage.
Halpenny can't get the takedown.

Sampson pulls guard effortlessly.
Sampson wants to stand up but Halpenny is controlling him.
Sampson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Sampson pulls Halpenny in close to his closed guard and prevents Halpenny from doing any damage or advancing position.
Sampson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Sampson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sampson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Halpenny is just riding it out for now. Sampson eventually gives up the hold.

Halpenny takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sampson is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Halpenny is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
