Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steve Begin (ranked 6610 p4p, 0 weight class) and Short McSmall (ranked 25085 p4p, 0 weight class). Short McSmall is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Begin closes this distance looking for a takedown but McSmall circles away.
Begin on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A low kick from Begin is predictable there
and McSmall counters with a one-two to the body.
McSmall scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
McSmall scores with a head kick. Begin tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
McSmall swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Begin.
McSmall lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
McSmall should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
McSmall throws a head kick that half lands.

Begin moves into the clinch successfully.
McSmall wants to break free but Begin has control.
McSmall is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
McSmall misses with some punches.
Begin misses with an elbow over the top.

Begin slows down the pace here.

Begin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Begin has taken the fight to the clinch.

Begin tries for a takedown. No joy.

McSmall is fighting off a takedown attempt but Begin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip McSmall to the mat. McSmall regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
McSmall can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Begin controls the pace.

Begin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Begin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McSmall enables Begin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McSmall manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Begin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McSmall swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Begin works over McSmall with some ground and pound from guard.

Begin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

McSmall wants to stand but Begin is controlling the position.

A close round but Short McSmall will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Begin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McSmall moves away.
McSmall tries a head kick but it misses.

Begin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Begin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
McSmall wants to get back to his feet.
Begin wants to stand but McSmall has his arm trapped.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steve Begin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McSmall bucks up and tries to throw Begin off but instead Begin has got his back!

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Begin.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McSmall really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Begin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McSmall is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
McSmall is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
