PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zane Kayser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konrad Afa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kayser comes into the arena with Desire - Under Your Spell blaring out of the sound system. Konrad Afa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zane Kayser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Konrad Afa!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Topper Green and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Afa shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kayser eats them both and turns towards Afa to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Afa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Afa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kayser circles away quickly and effectively.
Kayser looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Afa misses with a double jab
and Kayser makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Afa drops Kayser with a right and a left! Afa comes rushing in but Kayser regains his composure and manages to keep Afa in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kayser is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Afa postures up in Kayser's guard and throws a big left but Kayser blocks it.
Kayser bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Afa's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Afa can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kayser won't allow Afa to get back to his feet.
Kayser is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Afa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kayser. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Afa has momentary wrist control but Kayser slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kayser stands up over Afa, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Kayser drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kayser jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kayser will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Afa is looking to stand up but Kayser isn't so interested in that idea.

Kayser has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Afa is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Afa manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Kayser lands with a left to the head.
Kayser throws an elbow but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A short body shot lands from Kayser as the two fighters clinch.
Kayser keeps control of Afa as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kayser tries to pull guard but Afa holds him up against the cage and eventually Kayser drops back down to his feet.
Afa tries to break free but Kayser pushes him back against the cage.

Kayser breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Konrad Afa has been cut.
Kayser shoots in looking for a takedown. Afa tries to sprawl out of it but Kayser keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Afa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zane Kayser. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Afa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kayser moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Zane Kayser will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Konrad Afa's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kayser drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Kayser seems to have locked his on tight now - Afa screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Kayser, as he picks up the win!
