The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baxwell takes the fight into the clinch.
Gilliam fails to pull guard.
Gilliam keeps control of Baxwell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Baxwell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Baxwell breaks the clinch.
Baxwell forces Gilliam back against the cage and clinches.
Baxwell takes an elbow to the forehead.
It looks like Brutus Baxwell has been cut.
Baxwell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gilliam moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
It looks like Kelly Gilliam has been cut.
Baxwell fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gilliam, pushing him back against the cage.
Baxwell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gilliam has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Baxwell's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gilliam landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Gilliam misses with a punch to the body.
Baxwell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gilliam has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Baxwell's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Baxwell breaks the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gilliam gets tackled into the cage by Baxwell. Baxwell maintains the clinch.
Gilliam is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Baxwell to keep the fight standing.
Baxwell is trying to force a seperation but Gilliam has the dominant position.
Gilliam pulls guard successfully.
Gilliam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Baxwell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Baxwell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Baxwell stands up over Gilliam, holding on to his feet. Baxwell throws the legs to one side and dives in with a huge shot that lands flush on the chin! Gilliam is out cold! Baxwell lands a couple more shots and the ref tackles him out of the way! What a brutal finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Brutus Baxwell!
