PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lee Jung Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and This Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Park has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Lee Jung Park has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lee Jung Park!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, This Guy!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy scores with a nice body kick.
Park is breathing heavily.
Guy lands with a kick to the temple. Park shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Guy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Park pinned against the cage. Park gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Park feinted there with a counter leg kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Guy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guy works Park's body with a nice hook.
Guy fails with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Park avoids the head kick by Guy.
Park throws a big counter combination but Guy scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Guy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Guy is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guy wants to take a breather but Park is having none of it.

Guy tries to pass to full mount but Park defends it.
Guy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Guy darts in looking for a takedown but Park gets double underhooks and turns Guy into the cage.
Park seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Lee Jung Park has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of This Guy.
Guy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Park defends it nicely.

Guy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Park is fending him off so far but Guy persists. Nope, Park circles away and we're back to standing.
Park was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Guy has a takedown stuffed.
Park throwing a counter right hand but Guy manages to avoid it.
Guy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Park sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guy somewhat.
Park is looking for a counter combo.
Guy tries to close the distance and clinch but Park swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Park feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Guy tries to clinch there but Park circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Guy scores with a takedown into Park's guard.
Guy is looking to stand up but Park won't let him.
Guy wants to control from the top but Park keeps moving.
Guy wants to stand but Park is controlling his posture from full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Guy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

This Guy dominated that round.

Guy closes the distance and clinches.
Park is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Guy to keep the fight standing.
Park tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Park fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Jung Park. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Guy gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guy passes Park's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Guy wants to get back to his feet.

This Guy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Guy is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Guy not doing much here.
Guy wants to stand up but Park is controlling the position.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Guy. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Guy lands strikes from half guard.
Guy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Guy is trying to control. Park wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Still in half guard, Guy seems content to control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Guy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Park's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Guy's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Guy lands a couple of digs.
Guy sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Guy throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Park works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Park keeping moving, preventing Guy from controlling successfully.
Guy content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Guy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Guy decides to stand up, so the ref orders Park to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

This Guy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Guy tries to clinch there but Park circles away.
Guy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Park but Park pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A quick step to the side and Park tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Guy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Park to the ground. Guy is now in Park's guard.
Guy controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guy wants to control from the top but Park keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Park working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Guy.
Park will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Park can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Guy controls the pace.
Guy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Park is proving hard to escape from.
Park wants to get back to his feet but Guy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Park on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Park tries to get out of the position.
Guy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lee Jung Park has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Guy jumps into guard, dragging Park to the mat.

Guy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Park is aware though and is defending well.
Guy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Guy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Park throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Park cracks Guy with a solid left hand.
Guy tries to strike from the bottom.
Guy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Guy keeping moving, preventing Park from controlling successfully.

Guy is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Park frees his head nicely. Oh but Guy has switched to an armbar! Park is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
