PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Pearce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pearce has chosen Enter Sandman (Metallica) as his entrance music. Michael Pearce is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Pearce!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearce stuffs the takedown.
Gruber wants to clinch up but Pearce keeps it at a distance.

Gruber drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Pearce looks gassed!
Gruber is in close to Pearce's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Gruber landing some decent shots from guard.
Gruber tries to free his leg and advance position but Pearce is retaining full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nice takedown defense from Pearce. No joy for Gruber on that attempt.

Pearce decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pearce is trying to control the action in half guard but Gruber is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pearce is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gruber defends it well.
Gruber is staying active underneath Pearce, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gruber is trying to maintain the position but Pearce is very close to passing his half guard.
Pearce tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gruber knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gruber is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Pearce is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Gruber looking for a guillotine from mount but Pearce is having none of it.
Pearce really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gruber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pearce holds on for dear life, controlling Gruber's posture momentarily.
Gruber throws some wild stikes that Pearce manages to avoid easily.
Gruber avoids the attempt from Pearce to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gruber working away from the top, dropping strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pearce wants to hold on but Gruber pushes him away.
BOOM! Gruber connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Pearce gets back to half guard.
Pearce tries to roll over but Gruber keeps him under control.
Gruber looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pearce tries to get to full guard but Gruber has control of the leg.
Gruber looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pearce with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gruber stands up from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Gruber dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Pearce gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pearce being controlled here, momentarily.
Pearce not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gruber stands and steps away. Pearce gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Gruber drops Pearce with a beautiful combination! Pearce stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Gruber is looking for the KO!


Pearce is rocked!


It looks like Michael Pearce has been cut.
Pearce shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Gruber counters with a good, hard body kick but Pearce shrugs it off.
Pearce is still on wobbly legs! Can Gruber finish him?
Gruber moves into the clinch.
Pearce seems to have recovered his senses.
Gruber is working for takedown but Pearce is calmly controlling the position for now.

Pearce is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gruber can't fight it off and eventually Pearce manages to take the fight to the floor. Gruber looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pearce is breathing heavily.
Gruber throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Pearce wants to control from the top but Gruber keeps moving.
Gruber is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Gruber is really struggling to control Pearce but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Pearce must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gruber tries to score a body lock takedown but Pearce shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Gruber is fighting off a takedown attempt but Pearce is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gruber to the mat. Gruber regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pearce is in a horrible position here. Gruber smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Pearce flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Gruber trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gruber lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Pearce is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Gruber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gruber can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pearce is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Gruber drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Pearce shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gruber but Gruber pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hans Gruber is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Pearce counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Gruber postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pearce looks a forlorn figure.

Pearce reaches up and pulls Gruber towards him, trying to control the position. Gruber manages to get a guillotine from the mount though! This could be big trouble for Pearce! Pearce tries to roll over - now Gruber is on the bottom but the guillotine is really deep and Pearce has to tap out! Great work there by Gruber!
