Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Phelps (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Blues Saraceno - The River. Brendan Phelps has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brendan Phelps!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ian Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Phelps clinches up with Daniel and pushes him back against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Phelps.

Daniel works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Daniel looking to pass the guard.
Daniel wants to control from the top but Phelps keeps moving.
Phelps will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Daniel wants to pass the guard but Phelps is keeping the position.
Daniel is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Daniel is pushing down on Phelps's leg trying to pass to half guard. Phelps is fighting to maintain full guard but Daniel has managed to sneak the leg through.

Daniel's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Daniel throws a strike but Phelps avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Daniel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Daniel fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Phelps has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Phelps avoids the head kick by Daniel.

Daniel clinches up against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Phelps stalling.
Daniel putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Phelps in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Daniel breaks the clinch.
Phelps blocks a head kick by Daniel.

Daniel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Daniel lands in his opponent's guard.
Daniel wants to control from the top but Phelps keeps moving.
Daniel might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Phelps haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Phelps really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Daniel tries to free his leg and advance position but Phelps is retaining full guard.

Daniel decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Phelps, up you get!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Phelps looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Phelps is working for a submission of some sort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ian Daniel dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Daniel lands with a kick to the temple. Phelps shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Brendan Phelps has been cut.

Daniel moves into the clinch successfully.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Daniel as Phelps tries to tie him up.
Daniel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Daniel has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Phelps uses from the top position.

Phelps stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Daniel takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Phelps shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Daniel as he jumps to the side.
Daniel lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Daniel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Phelps is trying to defend but Daniel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Daniel perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Phelps is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Daniel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Daniel's back!

Daniel rolls, trying to escape but Phelps keeps control of the position.
Daniel trying to get back to his feet but Phelps is in full control for now.

Phelps has the hooks in. Daniel is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Phelps gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.

Daniel manages to reverse the position and now he's in Phelps's guard. Nice work there by Daniel.
Daniel is breathing heavily.

Daniel postures up.
Daniel tries to free his leg and advance position but Phelps is retaining full guard.
Daniel tries to stand but Phelps is controlling from the bottom.
Phelps keeping moving, preventing Daniel from controlling successfully.
Phelps looking for a sweep. Not yet Phelps, not yet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Phelps utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ian Daniel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Horrible takedown attempt by Phelps or perhaps it was just good defense by Daniel, which made it look bad.
Daniel looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Phelps tries to clinch up.
A combination from Phelps does no damage.
Brendan Phelps is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Daniel throws the kick towards the body but Phelps avoids it.

Daniel has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Phelps regains guard immediately.

Daniel sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Phelps's guard.

Phelps is looking for a sweep. Daniel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Daniel thows a huge punch but Phelps dodges it nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Daniel performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Daniel works his way into side control.
Daniel advances to full mount.
Daniel trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Daniel thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Phelps is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Daniel wants to take his opponent's back but Phelps doesn't allow it.
Daniel wants to control the pace but Phelps is squirming around nicely.
Phelps holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Daniel tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Daniel sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Brendan Phelps has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ian Daniel is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ian Daniel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Daniel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ian Daniel decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
