PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dexter Moon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dexter Moon was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dexter Moon!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emelianenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Moon did well to prevent Emelianenko getting side control.
Moon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Emelianenko not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Moon is not content to let Emelianenko control the position.

Moon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Moon postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Moon tries to stand but Emelianenko is controlling from the bottom.

Emelianenko is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Moon presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Emelianenko manages to pull guard.

Moon pushing down on Emelianenko's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Emelianenko is positioning himself well to prevent Moon advancing to mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Moon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Moon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Emelianenko's head.
Emelianenko is looking for a sweep. Moon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Emelianenko is not content to let Moon control the position.

Emelianenko makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Moon closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Emelianenko's guard.

Moon tries for a takedown but Emelianenko circles away easily
and Emelianenko counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Moon is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Moon misses with a looping right.
Moon stalks Emelianenko and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Emelianenko's face. Emelianenko staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Ivan Emelianenko has been cut.
Emelianenko is breathing heavily.
Emelianenko fails with the takedown.
Moon throws a right and a left that both miss.

Moon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Emelianenko's half guard.

Emelianenko pushes Moon off and gets back to his feet.
Dexter Moon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Moon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Moon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Moon shoots for a double leg takedown but Emelianenko sprawls well. He's pushed Moon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Emelianenko looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Moon is fending him off so far but Emelianenko persists. Nope, Moon circles away and we're back to standing.

Emelianenko attempts a counter takedown but Moon avoids it well and moves away.

Moon has closed the distance and engaged Emelianenko in a clinch.
Emelianenko is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Moon is keeping busy.
Moon is trying to drag Emelianenko to the mat but Emelianenko just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Emelianenko will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Moon looks to land a combination but Emelianenko avoids it well.
Moon closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Moon misses with a double jab
and Emelianenko counters with a left and a right that stings Moon.
Moon tries to clinch but Emelianenko moves out of range.
Moon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Moon wants it to stay on the feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Moon! But no joy.

Emelianenko throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Moon's waist but Moon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Emelianenko off to one side.

Moon throws a series of punches but Emelianenko moves out of range.

Emelianenko fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Moon sprawls well initially but Emelianenko persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Moon wants to stand back up but Emelianenko manages to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ivan Emelianenko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Emelianenko decides to stand up, so the ref orders Moon to his feet.
Moon stuffs the takedown.
Emelianenko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Moon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Emelianenko closes the distance and clinches up with Moon, looking for a takedown. Emelianenko pushes Moon against the cage but Moon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Emelianenko shoots in but no luck this time.

Emelianenko gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Moon to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Moon postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Moon makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Moon postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Moon looking to sit in guard and control but Emelianenko gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Moon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emelianenko is controlling him.

Emelianenko keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Moon's head.

Moon misses with a series of wild punches.
Emelianenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Emelianenko bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Emelianenko thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Moon tries to control but Emelianenko manages to take his back.

Moon is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Emelianenko is working for a guillotine from mount but Moon frees his head quite easily.

Emelianenko wants to control the pace but Moon is squirming around nicely.
Moon is bucking up trying to escape but Emelianenko cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Moon wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Moon tries to buck Emelianenko off but Emelianenko takes his back!
Emelianenko is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Moon defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Emelianenko's arms.

Moon is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Emelianenko lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Moon has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Emelianenko.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moon manages to reverse the position and now he's in Emelianenko's guard. Nice work there by Moon.

Emelianenko is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Moon wants to pass the guard but Emelianenko is keeping the position.
