PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Cole (ranked 95 p4p, 16 weight class) and Ravi Shankoli (ranked 128 p4p, 19 weight class). Cole comes to the cage accompanied by I Won't Back Down. Shankoli has chosen Ravi Shankar - Om Shiva as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 41 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Ravi Shankoli!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shankoli takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Cole tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shankoli swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A little jabbing left from Shankoli on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Cole shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cole showed some decent athleticism there.
Cole wants to control but Shankoli is keeping him busy.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cole connects with a nice short shot to Shankoli's temple.

Shankoli is controlling Cole's trapped leg to prevent Cole from advancing to side control.
Cole looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shankoli with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cole has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Shankoli holds on and takes a little breather.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cole throws out a leg kick but Shankoli moves out of range and Cole only half commits.
Cole throws a series of punches but Shankoli avoids them all with ease.
Shankoli throws out a counter right but Cole avoids it with no problem.

Shankoli takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

and Cole counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Shankoli thinking.
Cole fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shankoli manages to avoid it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shankoli throws a wild body kick that Cole sees coming a mile off.
Cole tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Shankoli manages to circle out of the way.

Despite the aggression on Shankoli's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Shankoli counters with a head kick that drops Cole to the mat! Cole scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Michael Cole.
Well Cole has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ravi Shankoli was interviewed post fight and said 'I believe he forgotten shower for a week or something, I gagged on my own vomit and never could get it back together again. Take a shower you filthy bastard!'.
