PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nolan Millner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Sultanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sultanov has chosen No Vaseline as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nolan Millner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amir Sultanov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sultanov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sultanov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Millner closes the distance and clinches.
Sultanov throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Sultanov lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Millner is pressing down on Sultanov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sultanov preventing the sweep.
Sultanov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sultanov stopping the sweep attempt from Millner.
Sultanov trying to control the position from guard on top but Millner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sultanov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sultanov is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sultanov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Millner is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sultanov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Millner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sultanov is looking to stand up but Millner won't let him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sultanov moves into range and clinches up with Millner.
Sultanov keeps control of Millner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sultanov landing knees to the head.
Sultanov tries a knee to the head but Millner blocks it.
Sultanov throws an elbow that misses.

Millner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sultanov has taken the fight to the clinch.
Millner managing to block the knees to the body from Sultanov.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Sultanov.
Knees to the body from Sultanov.
Sultanov lands a nice knee to the body.
Millner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sultanov.
Sultanov looks gassed!
Sultanov looking to throw knees to the head but Millner is blocking nicely.
Sultanov connects with a knee to the head.
Sultanov throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Millner blocks it with crossed arms.
Sultanov lands a knee to the head.
Sultanov prevents a takedown attempt there.

Millner manages to break the clinch.

Millner scores with a takedown into Sultanov's guard.
Millner pushes down on Sultanov's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sultanov pushes Millner off looking to stand but Millner dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sultanov wants to control but Millner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sultanov tries to roll over but Millner keeps him under control.
Sultanov moves into full guard.
Sultanov trying to keep a closed guard but Millner is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sultanov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Millner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Millner thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Sultanov tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Millner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sultanov throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Sultanov looking for a sweep. Not yet Sultanov, not yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Millner content to stall in guard here.

Sultanov working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Millner has passed into half guard!
Millner drops an elbow to the side of Sultanov's head.
Millner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sultanov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Millner in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sultanov tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Millner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nolan Millner!
