PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clark Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raheem Nazir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Clark Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Raheem Nazir!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nazir shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rivers's guard.
Nazir is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Nazir postures up.
Rivers really is a fat lump.

Nazir thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rivers is working an open guard so Nazir takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nazir shoots in for a double leg but Rivers sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee is keeping an eye on Nazir - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Nazir is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rivers can't fight it off and eventually Nazir manages to take the fight to the floor. Rivers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Nazir postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rivers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nazir defends it easily.
Nazir distracts Rivers with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Nazir passes Rivers's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Nazir drops an elbow to the side of Rivers's head.
Nazir is trying to control the action in half guard but Rivers is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Nazir working over Rivers with some ground and pound. Rivers looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Rivers has hold of Nazir's hands but Nazir slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Nazir stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nazir closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rivers taking punishment in the form of punches.
Nazir lands a nice forearm strike.

Nazir decides to stand back up.

Rivers moves into the clinch successfully.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nazir works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Rivers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivers keeping moving, preventing Nazir from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nazir is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Rivers will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rivers is rocked!
Nazir loads up on a big left hand. Rivers felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Nazir looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Rivers can't hide his disappointment, as Nazir celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Raheem Nazir!
