Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Valentine Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Smirnoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vladimir Smirnoff looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Valentine Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladimir Smirnoff!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smirnoff misses with the body kick

and Ross counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ross is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Smirnoff wants to stand but Ross is controlling the position.
Ross controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ross throwing strikes but missing.
Smirnoff is wriggling around but Ross manages to pass to half guard.
Smirnoff wants to get back to his feet.
Ross is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Smirnoff avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ross.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ross not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ross content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Smirnoff pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ross takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Smirnoff looks winded!

Smirnoff has closed the distance and engaged Ross in a clinch.

Smirnoff breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ross takes a jab right on the kisser.


It looks like Valentine Ross has been cut.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Smirnoff.
Smirnoff tried to score with a low kick but Ross checks it.
Smirnoff pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Smirnoff pushes Ross away with a front kick.
Smirnoff misses with an attempted mid kick.
Smirnoff lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Smirnoff throws a head kick that misses.

Ross throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smirnoff tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ross is in Smirnoff's guard.
Smirnoff is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ross dives into side control.

Ross is working Smirnoff over with some ground and pound from side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Ross scores with punches from side control.

Smirnoff is looking to get back to his feet here but Ross is keeping cool and he's managed to take Smirnoff's back.
Ross is landing with strikes from the back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ross scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Smirnoff wants to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Valentine Ross will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Ross fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smirnoff, pushing him back against the cage.

Ross manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Ross bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smirnoff's guard.

Ross is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smirnoff can do to turn this around?
Ross won't allow Smirnoff to get back to his feet.
Ross will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ross slows the pace down in half guard.
Smirnoff wants to get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smirnoff throws a body kick that misses.
Ross wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Ross shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smirnoff as he avoids it easily.

Smirnoff shoots in and gets a takedown into Ross's guard.
Smirnoff throws an elbow that misses. Ross uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Smirnoff's guard. Nice move by Ross!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ross working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Smirnoff's head.
Ross not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Ross scoring with some ground and pound.
Ross is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ross's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Smirnoff throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's time! Ross's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Smirnoff clinches.

Ross gets control of Smirnoff's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ross will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Ross controlling the position.
Ross tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ross is pulling down on Smirnoff's head. It's preventing any offense from Smirnoff, at least for the moment.
Smirnoff would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ross holds on and takes a little breather.
Smirnoff takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ross lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ross stays in close to Smirnoff's body and controls the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Valentine Ross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smirnoff thows a leg kick but Ross checks it

and Ross counters with a shoot takedown. Smirnoff fights it but they end up in guard.
Smirnoff is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ross dives into side control.

Smirnoff takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ross landing a few strikes.

Smirnoff tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ross grinds an elbow into Smirnoff's temple.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ross works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Ross is chipping away with strikes.
Ross cracks Smirnoff with a big right hand but Smirnoff just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Ross is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Smirnoff is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Valentine Ross showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ross, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
