PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Cody Delacruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mar Kunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cody Delacruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mar Kunt!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kunt has taken the fight to the clinch.

Kunt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kunt fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Delacruz to the ground. Kunt is now in Delacruz's guard.
Kunt prevents Delacruz from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kunt trying to stand up but can't free himself from Delacruz's guard.

Kunt got a little sloppy there for a moment and Delacruz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kunt has managed to get both his arms back between Delacruz's legs - danger averted.

Delacruz looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kunt lands a couple of elbows.
Kunt trying to control the position from guard on top but Delacruz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kunt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Delacruz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kunt is aware though and is defending well.
Kunt wanted to stand there but Delacruz had control of the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kunt is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mar Kunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kunt goes for a double leg but Delacruz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Delacruz continues to drive forward.

Kunt shoots in and bounces Delacruz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kunt is standing up over Delacruz. Delacruz looks to escape but Kunt dives into side control.

Delacruz is trying to control Kunt's posture but Kunt avoids it.

Delacruz is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Kunt tries for a kimura but Delacruz is defending well.

Delacruz prevents Kunt from moving into mount.
Delacruz pushes Kunt away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kunt gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Delacruz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kunt is controlling him well.
Kunt has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Delacruz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Kunt working for a guillotine from mount but Delacruz is in no mood to give up.
Delacruz is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Kunt controlling the pace for now.
Delacruz squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kunt trying to control but Delacruz is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mar Kunt dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kunt stuffs the takedown.
Kunt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Delacruz avoids it really well and circles away.
Delacruz fires out a quick counter leg kick but Kunt just manages to avoid it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kunt.
Delacruz throws a wild body kick that Kunt sees coming a mile off.
Kunt shoots in looking for a takedown. Delacruz tries to sprawl out of it but Kunt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Delacruz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cody Delacruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mar Kunt.

Delacruz is looking to clinch but Kunt is avoiding it.

Kunt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Delacruz, pushing him back against the cage.

Kunt has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Delacruz clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Kunt lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Delacruz is trying to stand back up.

Delacruz manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.

Kunt has Delacruz up against the cage in a clinch.

Delacruz is defending well against a takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Delacruz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kunt smiles and moves away.
Kunt has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Delacruz takes the fight into the clinch.
Delacruz tries to break the clinch but Kunt is controlling the position.
Delacruz managing to block the knees to the body from Kunt.

Kunt breaks the clinch.

Kunt tries to keep at a distance but Delacruz has taken the fight into the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Kunt as Delacruz tries to tie him up.
Kunt tries to pull guard but Delacruz holds him up against the cage and eventually Kunt drops back down to his feet.
Kunt is trying to pull guard but Delacruz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Kunt's face as he tries to break the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Delacruz breaks the clinch.
Kunt dives in and grabs Delacruz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Delacruz pushes down on Kunt's head and hops out.

Mar Kunt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Delacruz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Delacruz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Delacruz ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Delacruz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kunt is breathing heavily.
Delacruz is looking to stand up but Kunt isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cody Delacruz will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kunt pulls Delacruz in to control the position.
Delacruz trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kunt's guard.
Kunt lands a good elbow from the bottom.

Kunt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kunt has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Delacruz has passed into side control.

Delacruz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kunt has escaped the position, nice work there.
Delacruz tries to get to his feet but Kunt is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Delacruz in his guard.
Delacruz is looking to stand up but Kunt won't let him.

Delacruz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Delacruz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kunt looking for a guillotine here but Delacruz defends easily.
Delacruz stands up over Kunt, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Delacruz has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kunt is proving hard to escape from.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Delacruz misses with a takedown attempt - Kunt sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kunt lands a two punch combo.
Kunt misses with a low kick.

Kunt rushes Delacruz and presses him up against the cage.

Kunt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kunt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Delacruz's guard.
Kunt takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kunt won't allow Delacruz to get back to his feet.

Kunt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kunt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Delacruz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kunt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Delacruz wants to stand and escape but Kunt is having none of it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Delacruz tries to clinch but Kunt is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Delacruz takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Kunt drives through and clinches with Delacruz against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kunt has hold of one of Delacruz's legs. Delacruz is fighting the takedown attempt but Kunt gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mar Kunt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kunt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
