PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimi Powell (ranked 1042 p4p, 30 weight class) and Jackie Chan (ranked 667 p4p, 27 weight class). Powell comes to the cage accompanied by 8 Mile. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimi Powell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jackie Chan!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell fails with a takedown attempt.
Chan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Powell's head backwards.
Chan slips under a jab.
Powell lands a really nice looking cross but Chan seems unphased.
Powell misses with a takedown

and Chan counters by moving into the clinch.
Chan lands a left hand that snaps the head of Powell backwards.
We've been hearing reports that Powell has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Chan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Powell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Powell on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Powell lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Powell rushes Chan and presses him up against the cage.

Chan breaks the clinch.
Powell uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Chan.
Jimi Powell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Powell shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chan sprawls well. Chan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Powell gets slowly back to his feet.

Powell takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Powell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Chan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Powell pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Chan is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Powell gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Chan misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Powell lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Powell is working for takedown but Chan is calmly controlling the position for now.
Chan lands a right hand.
Powell misses with a short punch on the inside.
Chan misses with a body punch.
Chan pushes Powell back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Powell lands with a right to the head.

Chan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Chan shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Chan trying to pass the guard but Powell defending well.
Chan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Powell is looking to control Chan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Powell avoid being mounted?
Chan missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Chan trying to control the action but Powell is working from the bottom.
Chan thows a huge punch but Powell dodges it nicely.
Chan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chan is taking a breather. Powell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Chan connects with a body shot.
Powell takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Powell misses with an uppercut. Chan saw that one coming.
Powell with a poor takedown
and Chan counters with a lovely shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chan catches Powell with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Powell with a poor takedown
and Chan counters with a stiff right hand.
Chan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Powell stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A slow jab from Chan misses its intended target.
Powell on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Chan cracks Powell with a big right hand and Powell goes down!


Powell is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chan throws a big right hand that misses.
Oh Powell is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Chan controlling from the top position.
Chan trying to control the position from guard on top but Powell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Powell seems to have got his legs back now.
Chan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Powell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chan controls the pace.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Chan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Powell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jackie Chan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Chan lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Chan drops Powell with a left right combo! Chan follows him down to the ground into side control.
Chan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.
Chan scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Powell to see if he's OK.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Powell managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Chan.
Chan moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Chan scores with punches from side control.
Powell parries the strikes from Chan easily there. Chan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Powell to escape.
Chan scores with a couple of short elbows.
Powell is trying to control Chan's posture but Chan avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chan throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Chan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Powell parries the strikes from Chan easily there. Chan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Powell to escape.
Powell defending against the ground and pound.
Powell tries to bench press Chan off him but Chan keeps the position.
Chan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chan landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Chan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Powell regains half guard there - taking advantage of Chan's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Chan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Powell's head.
Chan not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Powell connects with a body shot.

Powell shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Chan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Powell pushes down on Chan's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Powell in particular looking to stall.
Chan pushes Powell off looking to stand but Powell dives back in and keeps control.
Chan is staying active underneath Powell, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Powell drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
The crowd cheers as Chan lands an impressive looking overhand right. Powell doesn't seem phased though.
Chan looks to score with a jab to the body but Powell is just out of range.
Powell tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Chan manages to circle out of the way.
Chan has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Powell closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chan did well to prevent Powell getting side control.

Chan kicks Powell off and gets back to his feet.
Chan misses with a wild body shot.
Chan is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Powell shoots in looking for a takedown. Chan tries to sprawl out of it but Powell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Powell is looking to clinch.
It seemed like Chan was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A telegraphed right hand from Chan misses the target.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Powell takes one to the chin there.
Chan lands a nice hook to Powell's body. Powell takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Chan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Powell darts in trying to clinch
and Chan counters with a big right hand! Oh Powell is in trouble here! Chan follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jackie Chan!
Jackie Chan was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
