PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ambrose Patel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arthur Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown has chosen Cochise - Audioslave as his entrance music. Arthur Brown has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ambrose Patel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Arthur Brown!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Brown does no damage.
Patel shoots in for a takedown but Brown shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Brown looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Patel fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Patel tries to close the distance and clinch but Brown swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brown lands a jab-cross combination.


It looks like Ambrose Patel has been cut.

Patel throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brown tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Patel is in Brown's guard.
Brown wants to stand but Patel is controlling the position.
Patel throws a big right hand that misses.

Patel stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.

Brown clinches with his opponent.

Patel pulls Brown into guard.
Brown is looking to work some ground and pound but Patel has wrist control.
Brown wants to pass the guard but Patel is keeping the position.
Brown is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Patel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Patel's legs - danger averted.
Brown postures up in Patel's guard and throws a big left but Patel blocks it.

Brown trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown throws an elbow that misses. Patel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Brown's guard. Nice move by Patel!

Patel gets to his feet. Brown looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brown has taken the fight to the clinch.

Brown jumps into guard, dragging Patel to the mat.

Brown is working an open guard so Patel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Brown swinging wildly here.
Brown lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Patel could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A combination from Brown does no damage.
Brown is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Arthur Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown lands a jab-cross combination.
Brown tries to clinch but Patel is having none of it.
Patel seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Sloppy strikes from Brown. Those never looked like landing.

Brown closes the distance and clinches.
Patel pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Brown works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Brown stands and throws Patel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patel holds on to Brown's head and controls the position momentarily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brown fails to land a wild elbow strike.
You can see the frustration on Patel's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Brown landing strikes.
Patel is not content to let Brown control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Brown moves in looking to clinch but Patel pushes him off.
Patel tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Brown manages to circle out of the way.
Patel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Brown misses with the combination.
Patel throws a big counter combination but Brown scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Brown manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patel fails with the takedown.

Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patel's guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Brown working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Patel wants to sweep but no luck.
Patel can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Brown controls the pace.
Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Patel swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brown looking to sit in guard and control but Patel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Brown tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brown is controlling Patel's posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Brown is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Patel presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Patel wants to break the clinch but can't.

Brown breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brown tries to clinch but Patel moves out of range.

Brown shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patel's guard.
Brown wants to control from the top but Patel keeps moving.

Brown gets to his feet - Patel follows without any prompting.
Brown lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Patel circles away quickly and effectively.
As Brown tries to get set, Patel tries to push him back and clinch up but Brown manages to avoid the attempt.
Brown connects with a crisp jab.
Brown misses with a wild combination.
Patel moves out of range of the body kick.
Brown throws a series of punches but Patel moves out of range.
Brown looks to score with a jab to the body but Patel is just out of range.
Brown is breathing heavily.
Brown wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Brown fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Patel throws a left and a right that both miss
and Brown counters with a left and a right that stings Patel.
Patel doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Patel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ambrose Patel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brown gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Patel tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Brown avoids it.

Patel breaks the clinch.
Brown falls off balance throwing a combination

and Patel counters with a takedown into side control.

Brown throws Patel to one side and escapes!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arthur Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Brown tries a head kick but it misses.

Brown has closed the distance and engaged Patel in a clinch.

Patel tries to break free but Brown pushes him back against the cage.

Brown manages to break the clinch.
Patel's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Brown connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Patel scrambles back to his feet.
Ambrose Patel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Brown throws a right and a left that Patel avoids nicely.
Brown pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Patel back to the cage. Brown follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Brown gets a takedown into half guard.

Patel kicks off Brown and gets to his feet.
Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Arthur Brown seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Brown tries to land a front kick but Patel steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Patel keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Patel throws a big counter combination but Brown scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Patel shoots for a takedown but Brown saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Brown lands a nice looking body kick.
Brown motions for Patel to come forward. Brown throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Brown throws a series of punches but Patel avoids them all with ease.
Brown is looking to clinch but Patel is avoiding it.

Patel fails with a takedown attempt.

Patel wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Brown has him pressed against the cage.
Brown is trying to pull guard but Patel turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Patel feints and as Brown raises his hands in defense, Patel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brown wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Patel manages to pass to side control.

Patel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brown does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Brown works his way to full guard. Good work.
Arthur Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Brown looking for a sweep. Not yet Brown, not yet.
Patel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Brown is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Patel stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.
Brown looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Patel is fending him off so far but Brown persists. Nope, Patel circles away and we're back to standing.
Ambrose Patel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arthur Brown.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brown fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Patel sprawls well initially but Brown persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Patel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Brown is keen to just control but Patel is a slippery customer.
Patel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brown in particular looking to stall.

Arthur Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Arthur Brown decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
