PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Milan Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gip Moriarty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Milan Gomez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Gip Moriarty!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gomez clinches with his opponent.
Gomez swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Gomez tries to pull guard but Moriarty holds him up against the cage and eventually Gomez drops back down to his feet.
A head punch on the inside from Gomez fails to land.
Moriarty stalls.

Gomez jumps into guard, dragging Moriarty to the mat.
Gomez throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Moriarty trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomez is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gomez wants to stand up but Moriarty is controlling him.
Gomez keeping moving, preventing Moriarty from controlling successfully.
Gomez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Moriarty looks to land a combination but Gomez avoids it well.
Moriarty misses with a wild body shot.
Gomez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Moriarty has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Moriarty drives through and clinches with Gomez against the cage.
Moriarty drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gomez gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gomez fails to pull guard.
Moriarty has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Gomez after a bit of a struggle.
Gomez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Moriarty goes for a takedown attempt but Gomez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Milan Gomez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gip Moriarty.

Moriarty rushes Gomez and presses him up against the cage.

Moriarty fails to pull guard.
Gomez tries to land a knee to the head but Moriarty blocks with his arms.
Moriarty is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Moriarty looks winded!

Gomez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gomez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Gomez looking for a sweep. Not yet Gomez, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gomez lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gomez's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gomez is looking to stand up but Moriarty won't let him.
Gomez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Gomez postures up in Moriarty's guard and throws a big left but Moriarty blocks it.

Moriarty will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Moriarty is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gomez is controlling him.
Gomez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Moriarty is proving hard to escape from.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gomez won't allow Moriarty to sweep him here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gomez looks to land a combination but Moriarty avoids it well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gomez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
A head kick misses from Gomez.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Gomez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Moriarty attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Moriarty.
Gomez is looking for a counter combo.
Moriarty connects with a body shot that sends Gomez's belly button to the back.

Gomez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gomez tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomez doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Moriarty breaks the clinch.
No joy there for Gomez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Moriarty swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gip Moriarty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gomez instigates a clinch.
Moriarty lands a right hand.
Gomez misses with a knee strike.

Moriarty escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by Moriarty or perhaps it was just good defense by Gomez, which made it look bad.
Moriarty is breathing heavily.

Moriarty darts in and clinches Gomez up against the cage.
Gomez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Moriarty just stands there and leans against the cage.
Gomez tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Gomez misses with a shot to the kidneys.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Moriarty stalling.
Moriarty lands a right hand that snaps the head of Gomez backwards.
Moriarty is looking to take this one to the mat.
Milan Gomez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gip Moriarty.
Moriarty jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gomez walks away with a smile on his face. Moriarty gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Moriarty.
Gomez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gomez throws a head kick but Moriarty moves out of range.
Moriarty is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Gomez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Moriarty avoids the head kick by Gomez.

Gomez instigates a clinch.

Gomez is looking to take this one to the mat.

Gomez jumps guard.
Moriarty trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Moriarty throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gomez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moriarty stands and steps away. Gomez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Gomez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Moriarty gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Moriarty's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gomez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moriarty tries to avoid it but Gomez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moriarty to the ground. Moriarty escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Moriarty shoots in looking for a takedown. Gomez tries to sprawl out of it but Moriarty keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gomez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Moriarty forces Gomez back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moriarty goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gomez prevents it.

Moriarty ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Moriarty no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gip Moriarty showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Gomez has closed the distance and engaged Moriarty in a clinch.
Gomez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Moriarty smiles and moves away.
Moriarty shoots for a double leg takedown but Gomez sprawls well. He's pushed Moriarty's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gomez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Moriarty lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Moriarty scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Moriarty is looking to take a break and control but Gomez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gomez gets back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomez won't allow Moriarty to pass to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Moriarty is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gomez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gomez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Gomez is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Moriarty will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Gomez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gomez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Moriarty for as long as he can get away with.
Moriarty throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Gomez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Moriarty tries to improve position but can't.

Gomez stands up and beckons Moriarty to his feet.
Moriarty dives in for a single leg takedown but Gomez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gomez checks a low kick from Moriarty.
Gomez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Moriarty manages to circle out of the way.

Gomez moves into the clinch successfully.

Gomez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Moriarty tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gomez just stands there and leans against the cage.

Moriarty gets underhooks to prevent Gomez's takedown attempt.
Gomez misses with the head strike.

Moriarty pulls guard successfully.
Gomez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gomez stands up from Moriarty's guard - Gomez perhaps looking for a knockout.

And that's the end of the fight!
