PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Blah Blah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Sumrall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blah's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Egg. Pat Sumrall is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Blah Blah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Pat Sumrall!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blah looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Blah trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Blah prevents Sumrall from getting back to his feet.

Blah drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sumrall dives on top into guard.
Blah looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sumrall puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sumrall tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Blah.
Blah wants to improve his position but Sumrall is controlling well.

Blah looking for submissions off his back.
Blah is trying to get back to full guard.

Sumrall gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Sumrall misses with a straight right.
Sumrall misses with a looping right.
Sumrall staying out of range there.
Blah throws the left hand but Sumrall avoids the punch easily.
Sumrall misses with a hook.
Sumrall just misses with a punch to the body.
Blah throws a hook but Sumrall blocks it.
Sumrall misses with a looping right.
No luck for Blah with that takedown attempt.
Pat Sumrall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Blah fails with the takedown.
Blah keeps the fight on the outside.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters circle momentarily. Sumrall darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Blah throws a predictable looking body shot
and Sumrall counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sumrall throws a hook to the side of Blah's head but Blah sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sumrall misses with a two punch combination.

Sumrall closes the distance and pushes Blah back into the cage.
Sumrall lands a shoulder strike.
Sumrall lands an uppercut.
A short right from Sumrall on the inside.
Blah takes a knee right on the jaw!
Sumrall lands with a left to the head.

Sumrall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sumrall cracks Blah with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Sumrall lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Blah circles away quickly and effectively.
Blah misses with a takedown attempt
and Sumrall counters with a lovely shot to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Blah Blah. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Blah is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sumrall throws a combination. Blah tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
A jab from Sumrall misses.
Blah keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sumrall throws a sloppy head kick and Blah moves out of range easily.
Sumrall throws out a loose jab but Blah uses good head movement to avoid it.
Blah fails with the takedown.
Sumrall tries to clinch but Blah moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sumrall looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Blah moves out of range as Sumrall strikes.
Sumrall tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Blah throws a big shot that misses.
Blah jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Blah dodges the punch combination from Sumrall.
Blah misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Sumrall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sumrall tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Blah paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Blah swats away the attempt to clinch by Sumrall.
Blah fails to land the takedown.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Blah cracks Sumrall with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Sumrall throws a series of punches but Blah moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pat Sumrall dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sumrall looks to land a combination but Blah avoids it well.
Pat Sumrall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sumrall throws a predictable looking body shot

and Blah counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sumrall!
Blah fails to take his opponent's back.
Blah is working hard here to advance position.
Sumrall's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Blah is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sumrall has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sumrall!

Blah throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sumrall escapes and throws Blah's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sumrall has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sumrall misses with a double jab.
Sumrall tries to close the distance and clinch but Blah swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Pat Sumrall is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Blah swings for the body but Sumrall moves out of range.
A combination from Sumrall does no damage.
Sumrall misses the jab.
Sumrall misses with a combination
and Blah counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Sumrall keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Sumrall swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Blah counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blah trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Sumrall wants to stand but Blah is controlling the position.
Blah advances to half guard.

Blah looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Blah is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sumrall defends it well.

Blah seems to be working for a kimura but Sumrall defends the submission attempt.

Sumrall manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Sumrall lands with a cross.
Sumrall throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Blah keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Good exchange - Sumrall coming out on top.
A big left from Sumrall misses.
A punch combination from Sumrall misses.
Blah takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Blah swings for the body but Sumrall moves out of range.

Sumrall throws a right and a left that Blah avoids nicely.
Blah staying out of range there.
Sumrall misses with an uppercut.
Sumrall looks to land a right hand but Blah moved out of range.
Sumrall misses with a series of wild punches.
Blah ducks under a wild hook from Sumrall.
A telegraphed right hand from Sumrall misses the target.
Blah throws a hook but Sumrall avoids it easily.
Sumrall throws a head kick but Blah moves out of range.
Sumrall waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Blah.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Pat Sumrall will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Blah shoots in and drives through. Sumrall sprawls well.
A slow jab from Sumrall misses its intended target.
Blah shoots in looking for a takedown. Sumrall tries to sprawl out of it but Blah keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sumrall manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sumrall tries a head kick but it misses.
Blah shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sumrall as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Blah Blah. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sumrall.
Blah swats away the attempt to clinch by Sumrall.
Blah avoids the body shot from Sumrall.

Blah shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sumrall but Sumrall pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Blah counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sumrall won't be happy with that.

Blah goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sumrall has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Blah but great work by Sumrall.

Sumrall decides to stand up, so the ref orders Blah to his feet.
Sumrall throws a head kick that Blah semi-blocks.
Sumrall fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Blah manages to avoid it.
Sumrall thows a body shot but no joy.
Sumrall lands a head kick!
Blah gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Blah fails with a takedown attempt.
No joy there for Sumrall, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Blah misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sumrall.
Blah shoots in and drives through. Sumrall sprawls well.
Blah avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Blah avoids the head kick by Sumrall.
Sumrall misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Blah.
Sumrall misses with a hook. Blah ducked under it nicely.

Sumrall closes the distance and clinches.
Sumrall working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Sumrall prevents a takedown attempt there.

Sumrall manages to break the clinch.
Pat Sumrall seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Blah misses with a takedown attempt - Sumrall sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Blah counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Sumrall's guard now.
Blah slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Blah tries to advance to mount but can't.

Blah working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Sumrall wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Blah tries to advance to mount but can't.
Sumrall is trying to buck Blah off.

I would just about give that final round to Pat Sumrall.
I've got Sumrall winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
