The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers fails with the takedown.
Smith wants to counter with a clinch but Rogers pushes him away.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rogers's half guard.
My spies in FIERCE inform me that Smith has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Smith fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rogers is squirming around, avoiding Smith's attempts to control the action.

Smith takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Smith is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rogers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Smith cracks Rogers with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
