PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Frye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Jennings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dennis Frye!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Jennings!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jennings bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Frye has one of Jennings's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Jennings wants to stand but Frye has his arm trapped.
You can see the frustration on Frye's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jennings is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Frye's shoulder. That is not cool.
Frye is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jennings off and has taken his back!
Jennings wants to get back to his feet.
Frye controlling from the back.
Jennings felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frye's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Jennings tries to escape the position.

Frye has good solid back control here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jennings trying to control the position but Frye manages to sink in the hooks.
Jennings is trying to stand back up.
I would not like to be Jennings right now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jennings is trying to get back to his feet but Frye has full control of the position and if anything, Jennings has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Frye trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Frye controlling the position well here. Jennings rolled but Frye kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Frye is looking for the choke from the back position but Jennings is controlling his hands well.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Frye really is a fat lump.
Jennings tries to break free.
Jennings just trying to survive but Frye is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Jennings is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Frye is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Will Frye go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Jennings is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jennings closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Frye quickly recovers to half guard.
Jennings wants to lay and pray for a moment but Frye keeps working.
Frye is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jennings can do to turn this around?
Frye throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Frye has hold of Jennings's hands but Jennings slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Jennings thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Jennings is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Frye sees it coming and defends easily.
Jennings controlling the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frye is not content to let Jennings control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jennings has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Frye defend it? Jennings steps over the head and cranks it - Frye is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Jennings!
