Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Morrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hunter Helmsley !
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Alyssa Summers and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Helmsley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Helmsley swings around for an armbar but Morrison sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Helmsley 's guard.
Helmsley wants to sweep here but Morrison controlling him for the moment.
Helmsley seems keen to control Morrison's posture.
Helmsley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Morrison might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Helmsley tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Helmsley has his hands on Morrison's head, controlling the position.
Morrison really is a fat lump.
Helmsley 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morrison is looking to stand up but Helmsley won't let him.

Morrison with a flurry of punches that miss.

Helmsley has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Helmsley tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Morrison controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Helmsley has a closed guard, preventing Morrison from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Morrison throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Helmsley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Morrison as he avoids it easily.
Morrison feinted with a counter takedown.
Morrison lands a head shot.
Helmsley shoots in looking for a takedown. Morrison tries to sprawl out of it but Helmsley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Morrison manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Helmsley manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Morrison on his heels. He'll look to pass Morrison's guard now, I'm sure.

Helmsley postures up in Morrison's guard and throws a big left but Morrison blocks it.
Helmsley tries to free his leg and advance position but Morrison is retaining full guard.

It looks like Matthew Morrison has been cut.

Helmsley lands a couple of elbows.
Helmsley has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Helmsley is looking to work some ground and pound but Morrison has wrist control.

Morrison is breathing heavily.
Helmsley postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.


Matthew Morrison's cut is getting worse.

Helmsley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Morrison dives on top into guard.

Helmsley wants to sweep but no luck.
Helmsley has control of Morrison's left arm, preventing Morrison from doing any damage.

Helmsley wriggles free and stands up.
Helmsley shoots for a takedown but Morrison saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Matthew Morrison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hunter Helmsley .
Morrison throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Helmsley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Morrison napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Helmsley crashes against the mat.
Morrison takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.


Matthew Morrison's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Helmsley lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Morrison down.


Morrison is rocked!


Jeez, Matthew Morrison's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Matthew Morrison's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Hunter Helmsley !
Hunter Helmsley decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
