PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Macdonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Macdonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dominic Walker!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The referee is keeping an eye on Macdonald - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Macdonald using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Walker has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Walker is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Macdonald gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Macdonald could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Walker has Macdonald pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Macdonald manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Walker is trying to drag Macdonald to the mat but Macdonald just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Alex Macdonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dominic Walker.

Walker breaks from the clinch.
Walker goes for a double leg but Macdonald avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Macdonald continues to drive forward.
Macdonald is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Macdonald keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Walker's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Macdonald drops back looking for a leg! Walker is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Walker manages to kick Macdonald off! Macdonald jumps back into Walker's guard.
Macdonald might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Walker has momentary wrist control but Macdonald slips an elbow through the middle.

Macdonald drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Macdonald jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Macdonald has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Walker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Macdonald can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

and Macdonald decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Walker's guard.

Macdonald is in close to Walker's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Macdonald has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Walker is proving hard to escape from.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Macdonald seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Walker for as long as he can get away with.

Macdonald lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Macdonald has hold of Walker's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Walker manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Walker has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Macdonald after a bit of a struggle.
Macdonald is looking to break free of the clinch but Walker has double underhooks.

Macdonald is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Walker can't fight it off and eventually Macdonald manages to take the fight to the floor. Walker looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Macdonald, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
