Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy McGill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy McGill!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Griffin tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
McGill tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Griffin misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
McGill on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
McGill tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Griffin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Griffin is trying to get an arm triangle but McGill is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and McGill works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGill can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McGill's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Griffin is nestled in close to McGill, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Griffin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McGill with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Griffin looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Griffin wants to control but McGill is keeping him busy.
McGill manages to get to full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Griffin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Griffin drops back, looking for a kneebar! McGill looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McGill looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McGill!

McGill thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McGill looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Griffin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGill takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Griffin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

McGill seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Griffin has hold of McGill's hands but McGill slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
McGill winds up and cracks Griffin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
McGill working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

McGill shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Griffin's guard.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

McGill shoots in looking for a takedown. Griffin tries to sprawl out of it but McGill keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Griffin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

McGill has his foot on Griffin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Griffin works his way back into a safe position though.
