The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Gacy shoots for a takedown but Mitchell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gacy wants to clinch.
Gacy shoots for a double leg takedown but Mitchell sprawls well. He's pushed Gacy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mitchell throws a hook but Gacy avoids it easily.
Gacy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mitchell.
Gacy changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Mitchell misses with a two punch combination.
Mitchell dives in and grabs Gacy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gacy pushes down on Mitchell's head and hops out.
Jose Mitchell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mitchell tests Gacy's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gacy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mitchell.
Gacy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mitchell.
Mitchell throws a right hand that Gacy ducks under and follows up with a left that Gacy also avoids with ease.
Gacy takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

It looks like John Gacy has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gacy as he avoids it easily.

Gacy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mitchell's guard.

Mitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gacy controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gacy is looking to advance position but Mitchell has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Mitchell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gacy tries to hold on but Mitchell pushes him away.
Gacy is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Mitchell is staying active.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gacy can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mitchell breaks from Gacy's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Gacy tries to hold on but Mitchell pushes him away.

Mitchell loads up with a big shot that hurts Gacy! He's pulled Mitchell in close but Mitchell has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Gacy survive? More strikes from Mitchell and Gacy is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

A relieved looking Jose Mitchell thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
