The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin fails to land the takedown.

Merrill rushes Griffin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Merrill is trying to drag Griffin to the mat but Griffin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Merrill wants to break the clinch but can't.
Merrill really is a fat lump.

Merrill escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Griffin swats away the attempt to clinch by Merrill.

and Griffin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Merrill won't be happy with that.

Merrill is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Merrill takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Merrill tries to escape but Griffin is in control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Merrill takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Merrill is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Griffin is controlling him well.
Griffin lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Griffin lands a strong strike to the head of Merrill. That's dazed him! Griffin looking to finish here. Merrill is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Griffin lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
