Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Takem Downem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zaine Barr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takem Downem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zaine Barr!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Downem has one foot on Barr's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Barr.
Barr misses with a takedown

and Downem counters by clinching up.
A shot in the inside from Downem.
Barr swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Downem's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Zaine Barr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Downem stuffs the takedown.
Takem Downem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zaine Barr.
Barr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Downem decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Barr's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barr is trying to hold Downem in close to prevent damage but Downem has managed to pass into half guard.
Barr wants to get back to full guard but Downem has passed into side control.

Downem is trying to get an arm triangle but Barr is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Downem is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Downem will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Barr tries to bench press Downem off him but Downem keeps the position.
The referee asks Downem politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Downem prefers to stall for the moment though.

Downem decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Barr shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Downem sprawls well. Downem wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barr gets slowly back to his feet.
An attempted straight right counter from Downem misses the target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Downem changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barr looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Barr is looking to reverse the position.
Barr being controlled for a moment.
Downem working away.
Downem is working Barr over with some ground and pound from side control.

Downem decides to stand up, so the ref orders Barr to his feet.
Barr shoots in looking for a takedown but Downem manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Barr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Downem throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Downem shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Downem showed some decent athleticism there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Downem trying to mount his opponent but Barr defends it.
Downem slows the pace down in half guard.

Downem stands up from half guard.

Downem shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Barr manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Downem gets to his feet - Barr follows without any prompting.
Barr doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Downem counters by moving into the clinch.

Downem breaks from the clinch.
Downem fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barr manages to avoid it.
Barr bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Barr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Downem is fending him off so far but Barr persists. Nope, Downem circles away and we're back to standing.

Downem has Barr up against the cage in a clinch.

Downem manages to break the clinch.
Downem misses with a hook. Barr ducked under it nicely.
Barr shoots and misses

and Downem moves into the clinch.
Downem misses with a hook to the ribs.
Downem presses Barr against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takem Downem dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Barr has his takedown stuffed

and Downem holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Downem struggles to land a body shot inside as Barr controls his hands.

Downem jumps into guard, dragging Barr to the mat.
Downem is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Barr wants to control from the top but Downem keeps moving.
Barr throws an elbow that misses. Downem uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barr's guard. Nice move by Downem!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barr preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Downem is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Barr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Downem controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Barr has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Downem is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Barr.

Downem has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Barr dives in and grabs Downem's left leg, looking for a takedown. Downem pushes down on Barr's head and hops out.

Downem fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Barr, pushing him back against the cage.
Downem content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Downem has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Barr clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barr is really stuck here.
Downem has good solid back control here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Barr tries to escape but Downem has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Good control from Downem.
Downem controlling well, preventing Barr from escaping the position.
Downem is not going to allow Barr to sit and survive in this position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Downem is looking for the choke from the back position but Barr is controlling his hands well.
Barr wants to control his opponent's hands but Downem gets his hands free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takem Downem dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Barr doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Downem moves into the clinch.

Downem has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Barr clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Downem looking for the choke from the back.
Downem slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Takem Downem overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Downem is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Barr won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Downem off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Takem Downem!
