Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Federiq Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sufjan Stevens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stevens has chosen They Are Zombies as his entrance music. Sufjan Stevens has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Federiq Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sufjan Stevens!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Stevens doesn't manage to clinch there - Santos circles away.
Santos keeps the fight on the outside.
Santos throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stevens.
Santos swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Stevens fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Santos manages to avoid it.
Stevens throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Stevens avoids a punch combination nicely.
Stevens throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Federiq Santos has been cut.
Santos throws a sloppy head kick

and Stevens counters with a flying knee that sends his opponent to the canvas! Stevens looking to finish!


Santos is rocked!
Stevens thows a big elbow that misses.
Oh Santos is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stevens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Santos throws a jab but it's blocked by Stevens.

Santos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A solid leg kick lands there for Stevens.

Santos is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Santos throws a hook but Stevens blocks it.

Santos misses with a shot to the body
and Stevens counters with a nice kick to the body.

Santos is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stevens lands a head kick that stumbles Santos and the fighters go to the mat.
Stevens with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Santos avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sufjan Stevens dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stevens shoots for a double leg takedown but Santos sprawls well. He's pushed Stevens's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Santos is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Stevens.
Santos misses with a wild body shot.
Stevens takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Stevens drops his hands momentarily and Santos takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Crunch! Stevens slams his shin into Santos's torso.

Stevens lands a high kick to the side of Santos's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Stevens dives into guard, looking to finish.


Federiq Santos's cut is getting worse.
Stevens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santos swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Santos wants to stand but Stevens is controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stevens wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.

Stevens missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Stevens throwing strikes but missing.
Stevens preventing the sweep.
Stevens scoring with some ground and pound.
Stevens in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Stevens connects with a vicious head kick that knocks Santos to the floor! Stevens dives in looking for the finish!

Santos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Stevens is working away from the top position though.

Stevens is controlling the pace.
Stevens seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Santos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Santos won't allow Stevens to pass to mount.
Stevens lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Santos pushes Stevens off but Stevens dives into side control.
An elbow from Stevens crashes against the mat.
Santos is not content to let Stevens control the position.
Stevens creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Stevens prevents Santos from escaping the position.
Stevens working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Santos parries the strikes from Stevens easily there. Stevens is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Santos to escape.
Santos tries to bench press Stevens off him but Stevens keeps the position.
Santos is trying to work for a sweep but Stevens has mounted him!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Stevens postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Santos looks a forlorn figure.
Stevens tries to control but Santos wriggling away.

Stevens lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Santos taking shots to the head.
Stevens cracks Santos with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Santos wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Stevens pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sufjan Stevens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Stevens lands a nice leg kick that just misses Santos's sensitive parts.
Stevens tries to clinch but Santos is having none of it.

Santos rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stevens moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Stevens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Santos as he jumps to the side.
Horrible takedown by Stevens or perhaps it was just good defense by Santos which made him look bad.
Federiq Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sufjan Stevens.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Federiq Santos's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Santos avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Santos controls Stevens momentarily but Stevens frees himself.
Santos is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stevens is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Stevens is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Santos Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Stevens's back instead.

Santos is trying to stick to Stevens's back but Stevens is turning into Santos. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Santos's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Stevens.
Stevens is looking to work some ground and pound but Santos has wrist control.
Santos preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Federiq Santos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Santos looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stevens is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Santos thows a body shot but no joy.
Santos avoids the head kick by Stevens.

Stevens throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stevens.
Santos dips to his left and cracks Stevens with an uppercut!
Santos's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Santos duly obliges.

and Santos makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Santos tries to bum rush Stevens with a series of wild strikes but Stevens uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Stevens takes one to the side of the head.
Stevens tries to clinch but Santos is having none of it.
Santos lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stevens circles away quickly and effectively.
Stevens fails with the takedown
and Santos counters with a left to the body.
Santos swinging wilding here.
Stevens swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Santos fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Stevens looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sufjan Stevens.
Well Stevens has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
