PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taco Stiffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Speva Koso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Taco Stiffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Speva Koso!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stiffy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Koso.
Koso shoots in for a double leg but Stiffy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
It looked like Stiffy wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Koso shoots in looking for a takedown. Stiffy tries to sprawl out of it but Koso keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stiffy manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Koso moves into the clinch successfully.
Koso tries to pull guard but Stiffy won't allow it.
Taco Stiffy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Speva Koso.
Koso jumps guard but Stiffy turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Koso tries to pull guard but Stiffy holds him up against the cage and eventually Koso drops back down to his feet.
Koso tries to pull guard but Stiffy won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stiffy digs a right hand into Koso's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Koso's gas tank.

Koso has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Stiffy uses from the top position.

Koso had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stiffy defends it easily.

Koso is working an open guard so Stiffy takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Stiffy lunges at Koso with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Koso's hand.

Koso fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stiffy, pushing him back against the cage.
Koso jumps guard but Stiffy stands there with Koso around his waist. Koso gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Koso tries to pull guard but Stiffy holds him up against the cage and eventually Koso drops back down to his feet.
Koso is trying to pull guard but Stiffy turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Koso tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Koso is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Stiffy to keep the fight standing.
Nice body punch from Stiffy - that landed with a thud.
Koso blocking some punches.
Koso blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Stiffy.
Stiffy throws a punch but it's blocked by Koso.
Koso tries to pull guard but Stiffy holds him up against the cage and eventually Koso drops back down to his feet.
Stiffy misses with a hook from the clinch.
Koso jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stiffy walks away with a smile on his face. Koso gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Stiffy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Koso was well out of range. Poor timing from Stiffy.
Stiffy stuffs the takedown attempt from Koso. Koso gets slowly back to his feet.
Stiffy looks to land a left hand but Koso moved out of range nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stiffy misses with a hook to the body

and Koso counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Koso wants to control from the top but Stiffy keeps moving.
Stiffy is controlling Koso's posture.
Stiffy continues to stall.
Koso passes Stiffy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Koso is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stiffy sees it coming and defends easily.
Stiffy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Koso is working away from the top position though.

Koso is trying to work for a kimura but Stiffy is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stiffy is concentrating on defense, preventing Koso from advancing position.

Koso is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Stiffy wants to control but Koso is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Koso throwing shots but Stiffy is blocking nicely.
Stiffy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Koso on the ground.
Stiffy keeping hold of Koso's head, controlling as best he can.
Koso missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Koso is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stiffy defends it well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Stiffy is looking to control Koso's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stiffy avoid being mounted?
Koso not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Stiffy is trying to maintain the position but Koso is very close to passing his half guard.
Stiffy holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Stiffy trying to hold on to Koso's head to control him but Koso postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stiffy pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Koso slips under a jab.
Stiffy feints a jab promting Koso to slip. Stiffy then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Koso slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Koso gets a takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Taco Stiffy will probably get the nod.
That's time! Stiffy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stiffy connects with a looping right hand.

Koso feints and as Stiffy raises his hands in defense, Koso changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stiffy trying to control the position.
Stiffy has control of Koso's left arm, preventing Koso from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koso postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koso trying to control but Stiffy is working from the bottom.
Stiffy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Koso pushes down on Stiffy's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Koso not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Koso looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Stiffy blocking the ground and pound attempt from Koso.

Koso maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Stiffy could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Koso has cracked it and Stiffy is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Koso!
