Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Osanti Herod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herod comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Judith kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herod looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Herod persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith misses with a takedown
and Herod counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Herod.
Smith is trying to keep Herod in close.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Herod manages to get himself to full guard.
Herod working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Herod had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Herod Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smith's back instead.
Smith is really stuck here.
Smith tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Herod avoids the attempt from Smith to control.

It looks like Paul Smith has been cut.

Herod working for a guillotine from mount but Smith is in no mood to give up.
Herod lands a heavy elbow.
Smith tries to control the position but Herod now has his back.
Herod is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Smith knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Smith for a finish.

Smith turns into Herod and is now in his guard.
Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Herod looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Smith passes Herod's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Smith is working for a kimura but Herod is defending it quite comfortably.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith tries to stand but can't do so whilst Herod controls his leg.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Herod is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Herod lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!

Smith has left one of his arms exposed and Herod doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Smith screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
