Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bart Olson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John McCallum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bart Olson has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bart Olson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John McCallum!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from McCallum. Olson does a little dance to reset his feet.

McCallum changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Olson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Olson explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
McCallum misses with an attempted mid kick.
Olson shoots in but McCallum avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McCallum only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Olson keeps the fight on the outside.
Olson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McCallum swivels and escapes.
Olson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McCallum.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McCallum darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Olson moves into full guard.
McCallum pushes down on Olson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
McCallum missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCallum perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

McCallum is looking for a kimura but Olson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McCallum to get the leverage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Olson blocking the ground and pound attempt from McCallum.
McCallum wants to control but Olson is keeping him busy.

McCallum is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Olson is just riding it out for now. McCallum eventually gives up the hold.

McCallum is working for a kimura here but Olson manages to reverse the position and he's now in McCallum's guard.
Olson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

McCallum is trying to keep Olson in close.

Olson stands and steps away. McCallum gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Olson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bart Olson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Olson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Olson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McCallum controls the pace.

McCallum got a little sloppy there for a moment and Olson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McCallum has managed to get both his arms back between Olson's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCallum not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

McCallum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Olson is working an open guard so McCallum takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Olson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

McCallum closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Olson quickly recovers to half guard.
Olson is breathing heavily.
Olson is trying to stand up here but McCallum is controlling him well.
McCallum wants to control but Olson is keeping him busy.
McCallum sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Olson defending well though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John McCallum will probably get the nod.

A head kick misses from McCallum.
John McCallum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCallum darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McCallum controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McCallum stalling away here and it's allowed Olson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

McCallum controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Olson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

McCallum has one foot on Olson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Olson blocks a jab.

McCallum throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Olson was covering up waiting for the punch and McCallum finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McCallum decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Olson, up you get!
McCallum tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McCallum manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Olson on his heels. He'll look to pass Olson's guard now, I'm sure.
McCallum wants to control from the top but Olson keeps moving.

McCallum passes Olson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
McCallum seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Olson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McCallum thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
McCallum not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McCallum looking to score a takedown here. Olson is defending well but McCallum drives through and ends up in Olson's guard.

Olson uses the cage to get back to his feet.
McCallum throws a lazy head kick
and Olson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

McCallum shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Olson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Olson explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!


Olson is rocked!
Oh Olson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

McCallum closes the distance and clinches.
McCallum stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but John McCallum will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

McCallum takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McCallum thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Olson seems to have got his legs back now.

McCallum looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Olson is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

McCallum moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Olson has worked his arm free - good work by Olson!

McCallum working the ground and pound but Olson is defending the strikes.
McCallum advances to mount.
Olson is trying to escape the mount.

McCallum is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McCallum defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Olson.
McCallum drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Olson defends it well.

McCallum manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Olson on his heels. He'll look to pass Olson's guard now, I'm sure.
McCallum slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

McCallum gets to his feet. Olson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McCallum fails to land with a series of punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
John McCallum comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McCallum has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
