PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Altare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Stapleton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stapleton is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Stick To Your Guns - Against Them All. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Altare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeremy Stapleton!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stapleton throws out a powerful jab.


It looks like John Altare has been cut.

Altare forces Stapleton back against the cage and clinches.
Stapleton wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Altare has him pressed against the cage.
A short uppercut from Altare.
Altare prevents the takedown attempt.
Stapleton lands a hook to the side of the head.
Altare keeps control of Stapleton as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Altare has a couple of punches blocked by Stapleton.

Stapleton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nice defenses there by Stapleton.

Altare rushes Stapleton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Altare misses with the head strike.
Altare gets through Stapleton's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Stapleton tries to break free but Altare pushes him back against the cage.

Altare scores with a shoulder strike.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Stapleton's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Altare breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Altare on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Altare displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stapleton throws out the jab.
Altare fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Stapleton on the side of the head.

Altare moves to clinch but Stapleton breaks away
and Stapleton counters with a stiff right hand.
Stapleton shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Altare tries to clinch but Stapleton moves out of range.

Altare forces Stapleton back against the cage and clinches.
Stapleton misses with a punch to the body.
Altare will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Stapleton up against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Altare.
Stapleton wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Altare's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
A frustrated look appears on Stapleton's face as he tries to break the clinch.

It seemed like Stapleton was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Stapleton tries to circle away but Altare has him pinned against the cage.
Altare tries a body shot but Stapleton blocks it.

Stapleton jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Stapleton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Altare has Stapleton pressed against the cage, preventing Stapleton from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Altare.
Altare dips a shoulder and cracks Stapleton with a mighty uppercut! Stapleton falls back against the cage and Altare unloads with a barrage of strikes! Stapleton is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Altare screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Altare!
